No freakin way dude! I went on to pashnit.com and although the rode looks way fun, it's just story after story after story of all the biker's getting tickets up there by some new CHP officer that has moved in to monitor only THAT road, looking for bike's. No thanks. I'll go up north, or down south, away from all the big populations and have a good time without the black and whites thank you. It's a toss up as to how well the KLR will do anyway. The site mentions alot of "straight sections", and as I said before, the more twisty the rode is, the better it can whip sportbikes. Care to come over to Hwy 1 on a weekday morning? Alright! You guys are on! Let's get a fast ride together here in NoCal before it starts raining. I'm tired of riding with these novice Monster pretenders. I would prefer to ride the Duc on pavement, but I'll ride the KLR now that it has Gripsters. I suggest Skaggs Springs/Stewards Point Road but if you foothill guys know a better one, let me know. I would really like to follow up on some dirt, too (no speed claims there). Paul A16 01 M750 'G' SF, CA> on the 600R, dinner is on me in Auburn.

There are so many great stretches of road in the SIerra foothills: old Priest Grade (not the new 120 but the original 1930 version); Wards Ferry Road, Honey Run Road, Big Hill Road, Parrots Ferry, old HW40, Orovile to Bucks Lake to Quincy or Oroville to Sky Creek Reservoir to Little Grass Valley Reservoir to Quincy, And if it wasn't that these days its so packed with cagers I'd say 49 from end to end would have remained California's Holy Grail of twisted road. And that's the way a ride should always play out. To add a little perspective, back when I was racing in the vet class I had to adapt to SX style jumps on the local tracks and I spent a season taking lessons from a group of hot shoe 80cc locals. Those kids didn't make me feel like a PITA either. Better for what? (he sez, not really caring what the answer might be.) This could be another oil thread. I imagine a lot of us have a favorite stretch of road for one reason or another..great view, elevation changes, camber of turns, surface texture, etc., etc,... For most, the draw of the "Dragon" is it's 318 turns in only 11 miles with the outside of most of those turns being a straight down 50'+ drop down thickly wooded hillsides and the little store at the Deals Gap side with it's "Tree of Shame", motorcycle only motel, and loads of poser/squid/curious onlooker types that gather any Sunday afternoon. There are plenty of roads in these east TN hills that I would rather ride for whatever reason so,....hey!, it's beautiful outside...why am I sittin' here pecking on this keyboard!,...I'm going riding!>The only way the Dragon is better >than CA 4 is if you live closer to it

Now where talking!
Maybe you can roll out on the ride with me and MrMoose on hwy 1 (not my
favorite road anymore because of traffic, but it'll work). We'll let you
know when. I'll be taking the YZF600R on that one though, which works good
for me anyway because both Distanzas on the KLR are gone (7000 miles if
anyones interested), have some new 604's here ready to spoon on, then I'll
be good to go!
Also, maybe some of us NorCal guys could get together for a ride, when it
cools off, (late October or so?) and head down to Death Valley and thru
Butte Valley. It's a great ride. Mabey shoot down 395 thru G'ville and pick
up that Pat guy and I bet that Ca Stu could be talked into it too. Think
about it.

quick addition, but if those forks are dry, or have very little oil, those topping springs will make quite a clang as the bottom of the slider catches them.
