While I can't address your specific problem with the speedometer, if you
do need to send the instrument out for repair, I suggest you consider
West Valley Instruments in the LA area.
Last year, I purchased a TC whose speedo and tach had been rebuilt by
Vintage Restorations some 12 years earlier, but had been installed in
the car only several years ago. They were the typical beautiful John
Marks restoration, but the car's seller told me that the odometer didn't
work when the instrument was installed. I opened the speedo and quickly
found a new, but obviously defective pawl on the odometer that was
causing the problem.
I couldn't get a response out of Marks (only later did I learn that he
was in the process of closing up shop), and contacted Nisonger. I was
disappointed with the response. In spite of my description of the
instrument as being nearly unused since its restoration, as being as
beautiful inside as it was outside, and in need of only one small part,
Nisonger would not even consider anything other than a complete
disassembly, cleaning, and recalibration. Although I described the
defective pawl, I was told that the unit has sat unused too long and
needs the full service.
In Carl Cederstrand's booklet on chronometric instruments, I found a
recommendation for West Valley Instruments in the LA area (818 758-9500)
for repairs. There, Morris Mintz was, at least initially, also a bit
reluctant initially to do anything less than a full tuneup, but he
agreed to look at the speedo before deciding. After he saw it, he
concurred that it only needed the pawl replaced, and he did the repair
for half of Nisonger's quote.
Nisonger undoubtedly does good work, but their unwillingness to consider
my specific problem and offer anything other than their standard fix
does not speak of good customer service.

I had the same experience with the cable. In my case there was dry residual
lubrication parts in side the cable was causing the problem. Some places
cable was looking like snake just after swallowing the rat. The movement was
not smooth, but felt like it was operating on a cam. After cleaning the
cable it worked smooth.

elephant, it is moore expensive than a TC, about $ 3000 per day.
