Try Mike Collingburn in the UK if you want it right. Cheers, John TB#0398

BTW I sent an original sample of a TB handbrake gaiter to Mike Collingburn to copy for us all some time ago. Cheers, John TB#0398

I guess I must add a little to this research... I had a 1949 TC that was nearly new(less than 12000 miles on it) when I bought it in San Diego, California. I took it to San Francisco where it rains quite often(well more than "quite often" in the winter) ........ I shouldn't say this as many TC owners will be up in arms, BUT the 'hood' leaked( you late comers in the 'old' car group would call it the roof or top). I came out one sunny day after one of the more plentiful rains of 1951 to find corn sprouting up from my 'PLUSH' MG original carpeting. My car had been shipped in a grain ship and to make dunnage(the crating of cars) more simple, they just put the top down and filled the hold with grain. Then at the end of the trip, they just vacuumed it out and sold the cars upon arrival. Why am I telling you this? Well, when I pulled up the corn, parts of the carpeting came also. I wouldn't call it cheap, but a $1250 new car certainly didn't have plush oriental carpeting; AND the carpet was not bound around the edges. These are notes for you purist restorers. BOB (Sorry , I don't have that bright RED TC now, wish I did: it was part of my prenuptial agreement.. She didn't want to climb into that 'little' car). Ten years ago I upgraded from Porsches to a MG again. Margie must have felt sorry for me after 40 years(I used to cry a lot at nights). Mine is a 1947 yellow TC. Not my favorite color; but it does GO like scat! Ray wrote:

I have purchased both the Moss and Abingdon Spares carpet sets.

The material from the Moss set was remarkably flimsy and cheap, the sections did not fit well, and some of the pieces included seemed to be just carpet scraps. I returned this to Moss for a refund. However, this may have been what the original material was like. Maybe someone on the list has a further comment of this.

Then I ordered the Abingdon Spares kit. The carpet material is much more plush and thicker. In fact, too plush. It was so thick that I had to cut out the backing so that the fasteners would go through the fabric. On my original order the rubber heel mat was sewn in the wrong way, that is with the "MG" facing to the left instead of to the right. Further, the hand brake boot was installed backwards, so that when it was engaged it pulled back on the whole carpet installation. I sent this carpet back to Abingdon for a replacement, the hand brake boot still is not quite correct. I haven't installed it. It is sitting in the closet and I put duct tape in strategic places to keep road crud and dust out of my face when blasting down the highway.

Good luck

Tom Caperton
