Howzit Listers, Time for some new shoes, which are better Galpher or Dunlopads? Price is not much different so, I'd like some honest opinions. TIA, Aloha, Eric [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

On Fred's recommendation, (fred@... , fred@...), I got the Galfer green pads for the front, and the Galfer black pads for the rear. I *think* he said the Dunlopads were too harsh on the rotors. I just put them on as part of my winter down-time maintenance, so don't have a performance report to offer at this point. I know that many other people are using this combination, if you believe in "safety in numbers." Wise men still seek Him... Mark St.Hilaire, Sr A15 Also: KLR6500@... Mark, What a difference a word makes.... What I said was that I thought the Dunlopads were "more" harsh on the rotors. The Dunlopads are a full metalic pad where the Galfers are a Semi-metalic pad. I believe Dunlpads to be better for off road situations and the Galfers to be better for dual sport or street riding. I tried the Galfer blacks on the rear and found them to have a good braking feel but they died way too fast. Like 3 times the wear-rate of OEM. For a bike that only gets a few thousand miles per year, an annual brake pad change is no big deal. I used up the Galfers in about three months. My current rear pad is the EBC sintered 'R' suffix (FA67R). They provide wear and performance similar to OEM, and are probably a little harder on the rotors. From the looks of things, my KLR's engine will be worn out before my rotors reach the wear limit, so I'm not too worried. I haven't tried the greens on the front yet. RM

You have a spouse? When she is not home pop 'em in the dishwasher. Run it a couple cycles and don't do it along side the good china. Actually I've just scrubbed with Really soapy water and a scrub brush. and re-used after a leaking fork seal soaked them. Dan /|\

I had some friends that would throw them in a pot of water and boil them for 15 minutes. Haven't tried myself, I stay out of the kitchen at all costs. F

This round's on me. Got a '93 KLR650 and it looks like I'm down to the metal. Where's the best bet for a new set of pads? Steve

Hello all, Any suggestions for brake pads for 80/20 street/offroad use? I've heard metal is better for roading in wet conditions while Kevlar are better for street use. Are EBC the best?
