If someone on a sport bike gives you crap about riding a slow street bike(KLR), challenge them to a race. Tell them it's a simple one, too: Just 100 feet up the road to a predetermined spot ----- and back again, staying in your own lane and not putting your feet down. I love watching a person on a bike with an extended swingarm trying to turn around in a tight spot. =) eddie

I was sitting at the light next to a Valkyrie (1520cc) I said $500. want to race? He realpied, I'll give you 100 yards, after that no mercy. I said,........ Make it $1000., .........But, I get to pick, The route. He tilted his head looking confused ,and stared at me a moment, then the "lights" went on, and He just smiled.

My buddy has a Vulcan mean streak 1600cc, A couple of times he took off a little fast and I would be right there. He looked frustrated, so the next time I seen a smile then he hit it harder, Got a slight lead, then I pasted him. 0-50+- (1threw 3 gear) I took him, or at least stayed with him evey time, he HATED it, and denied it later to others. We have that LOW END TORQUE!

I heard my klr called an old mans dirt bike...when I was later faced by the accurer I said yes it is. Why do you ask. He though that it was too slow for a young guy. I said maybe but going fast in the dirt off a track is a good way to never be an old dirt biker. There are old riders and bold riders but few old bold riders...... 63, been riding since I was 14 except for 4 years in the USAF. First bike was a Puch, better known as an allstate, ordered from Sears catalog. Current ride: 04 KLR, 04 goldwing, 66 Honda 305 Dream. We ought to have an "old mans rally" someplace scenic. Any ideas out there? To: beachmike1@...; jeff@... CC: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com From: nomad59@... I'm nearly 59. First bikes I road was a 50 cc Honda. Was not mine. I just road on the back with a friend. My first was a Cushman Schooter. Then a 305 Honda, then 125 Honda xt. Two DR 350's and Yahama 225 xt. Oh, had a Shadow 1100 for a while. Then sold it after buying the KLR in 08.

If they can make the Dalton on a sportbike with a passenger and luggage, including the 240 mile stretch with no gas stations, then they deserve to win. A KLR will BARELY make it, on reserve, and only if you're really easy on the throttle. -Jeff Khoury

This reminded me of the gag where a cigarette boat pilot in Miami kept teasing his sailboat buddy for having such a "slow" ride. The sailboat guy said, "Wanna race?" The sport boat guy jumped at the chance to dust his buddy and asked where to? Sailboat guy, "Bermuda." eddie
