I have both my bikes insured with State Farm.
They didn't say a thing about my KLR being an off-road capable bike nor did
they blink about the CBR250R being a "sport bike".
Heck, previously, I've insured two Honda Transalp 600s and a Suzuki DL1000
with them without question or additional $$$.

KLR650 because its a dual purpose bike and I may take it off of paved
roads. They want me to buy additional dirt bike insurance that wont cover
me on-road to go with my on-road insurance. If not, no insurance at all.
Probably because I got collision and medical insurance on it and me.

Tell them they obviously are making too much money, therefore they no
longer need your business.
I knew there was a reason I always hated State Farm.

I use Progressive and I like the low process and great services. Progressive covers both the KLR and Medical. BTW, "Flo" the gal in the Progressive commercials got a text photo from Anthony Wiener and that little reptile on the Geico Commercials, they should be ashamed.

I have all my bikes covered through Progressive and not had any problems. Of course I have not had any claims. Once I knocked over the Concours accidentally and broke a side panel of plastic plus a foot peg. The agent told me insurance is for catostphic damage. Hmmm....the $500 or so I shelled out to replace stuff was pretty catosthrophic to me. He didn't agree. I guess you should be dead to make a claim.

All of you folks stating that your insurance company is great, please clarify if you mean you're getting a great rate or if you've made a claim and received great service.
Getting cheap insurance doesn't do me any good if they give you hassles and/or never pay a claim.
I had homeowners, boat, two cars and life insurance with State Farm.
They are awesome. Someone ran a red and t-boned my wife... State Farm was there.
Someone busted into my truck and stole a buncha crap... Like a good neighbor, yep, they did me right and paid up no problem.
I called to get my HD insured, and my agent gave me an outrageously expensive quote. I asked why and he said "We have your life insurance, dude. They know that if you get in an accident on the bike, they will most likely have to pay out on the life policy."
Or some such nonsense. The agent may or may not have said "dude."
PIP varies state to state. In Texas, they HAVE to offer it. You automatically get it if you don't sign a waiver explicitly stating you refuse it. I do believe it's a min amount of $1000 or so. I opted for $3000, the same amount as my medical insurance deductible.
And Progressive has paid up twice, never any issues, without raising my rates.

Insurance is SUCH a good deal.
By the time you have an accident, the bike is worth so little that once
you take off the deductible, you get nothing! Such B.S. Did they
reduce the payment to nothing? NO! But as the value of the bike drops
like a stone, the cost of coverage stays the same! For nothing!
And if the other person has no insurance (happened to me!) my insurance
company just shrugs their shoulders "Could not recover the judgment from
the other driver". Case closed, you're screwed.
I am SO tempted to just carry liability, but I never do it. I guess I'm
an idiot.

That is why the coverages you really need are U and W, uninsured and underinsured coverage. If you are a halfway decent rider, the odds that the other guy will be at fault are huge. U and W are cheap compared to collision. They will pay for your bike and your injuries if the other guy is at fault and a deadbeat. The cost of PIP in Minnesota is prohibitive, and collision usually comes with hefty deductibles or else is also prohibitively expensive.
Of course these things do vary widely. I pay from $95 to $195/year/bike for the kind of coverage I am talking about. When I hear about guys paying that much per month, the mind boggles. But you live where you live, and have to deal with prevailing local conditions. Right across the river in Sconny, insurance costs a fraction what it does here, on the exurban fringe of the Twin Cities. In L.A. guys pay more per year in insurance than I pay for a pretty nice bike.

Who knew there were so energy-absorbing materials on a KLR?

I actually use my front fender, handlebars and mirrors as crash bars.
It works great! Oh, and turn signals too, sometimes.
