well, You get big points when you spelled my name right.... You talk about spraying your chain with WD-40, you have gone to meddling. Unfortunately, there is always seems to be some collateral damage for everything we do. sigh. revmaaatin. WD40 chain cleaning sinner, just not in the hotel room.> > revmaaatin, you must be one of those Hotelier loving, Liberal, Pinko tree hugger, commies! > > How dare you suggest that it is not ok to simply put the filter under the hotel pillow and sleep on it so it and the matress soak up all that old oil and dirt. The answer to the question--how to manage filter maintenance on the road: NoToil filter systems. One or more extra oiled filter in a baggie. Oil/cleaner moved into smaller containers. revmaaatin. who 'hugs' trees occasionally; but it hurts when still attached to the KLR> > It was a THEORY (Example) SIMPLIFIED! Shane- Sounds like your ride alone, and not where there is much dust. You ever been #5 rider on 2000miles of gravel? or even on a 100 mile ride? You will suck a lot of dust. Even #2 will suck a lot of extra dirt. On a long ride, you will change filters every other day--if not more. Happy is he that is the #1/guide. Only #1 has the cleanest filter. and the whitest teeth. revmaaatin.> > > I just thought most of us carried a pre-oiled spare filter. In a ziplock bag, stuffed into the luggage somewhere. Never thought of actually cleaning one on the road.
