Good choice on the KLR, RobMan. Welcome to the club! Yes, a high quality aluminum bar does help with the vibes. Depends on each individual bike, and the tolerance/reference for each rider. The better solution is probably the thick-walled pro taper that require the adapter. But even the 7/8inch series are good. Pull-back and rise as well as sweep are all factors to consider. The stock KLR bars are actually very good in this regard. Just don't standup as well as Protaper or Renthal. Softbags generally work well. Beware that the right hand sidepanel will tend to melt due to heating from the exhaust pipe. Especially in the summer months when the saddlebag will provide insulation and keep the heat trapped against the plastic sidepanel. Kawi did sell a small luggage bar that held the bags off the sidepanel, but it has since been discontinued. If you have welder friend, you could have a copy of the thing made relatively cheaply. Best pipe for the KLR is a subjective topic. Supertrappe works well and is lighter than the oem. BigGun pipes have given some riders trouble as they came apart under the massive HP loads our beloved KLR delivers 8-). Laser Pro-Dura is a quality stainless pipe that flows a bit better and is nice looking and sounding (though a bit on the expensive side). FMF and Two-Bros supposedly make a KLR pipe, but these have not been as popular as the others. You may need to richen up the mixture, as the bike is jetted lean from the factory, and an increase in flow will make it even leaner. Check the FAQ for details and suggestions. Come back with more questions and we'll try to add even more confusion. FAQ: http://www.BIGCEE.com/klr650faq.html MarkB

Yes sir, this is correct, verified, substanitated and experienced. However, as a sidebar observation, if you pack your Dinty-Moore Beef Stew in the soft luggage, near the exhaust pipe in the morning at 0700, it will be toasty-warm at 1800 when it is time for supper while others are digging out the camp stove and burning themselves with uncontrolled liquid fuel, etal. In lou of Dinty Moore stew, dried Ramen noodles (styver-foam cup packaging, c snip above) do not work near the exhaust pipe, at lest that is what I have heard (8~o...: revmaaatin. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "dumbazz_650" wrote:

Morning fellow members, I just wanted to say " Thanks " to all that responded to the question I asked about the heat shield. This is the best group of people that I have listened to and read helpful suggestions on all parts of this bike. You guy really take pride in the KLR650. Hopefully, one day I will have the experience to answer questions as you all have. Greg --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1 /min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo!
