pelican 1550 cases and your passenger

Post by knightsabre75 » Mon Apr 27, 2009 4:37 pm

Oh yes, I'm well aware of this concept. The only increase I'm considering is to the top case, and only to the 1550 from the 1500, or possibly a true top case that could hold my helmet, specifically for that purpose (and hence, would be mostly empty most of the time). I've grown accustomed to the 1550 side cases, and they are just about ideal for my needs. Warren -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Warren Werner 2005 KLR650 1980 SR500D Seward, NE

I have packed that way many times in the past, and usually come home with more than half my gear untouched and unused. E21's give plenty of capacity, and are top-loading. Instead of looking for a little more room, give a little more thought to what you can leave behind, and how to pack what you have more efficiently. >

Warren, I think my 9 inch aluminum cases (Whitehorse Press supplied) have about the same usable interior space as the 1550s do. I went aluminum to keep the weight down but I really like the durability of the Pelicans. I also like the side load option better since you can get in them when you have dry bags stacked on the back. My GS had the stock side opening bags and I loved them. Top opening sux when the back is loaded with dry bags

Darcy or Julie, Cut some cardboard boxes the same outside size as the pelicans then tape them to the bike in the same place you see them on other bikes in pictures. Then get on and see if they work. It helps to look at the mount bracket you plan to use too so you know how far back they will be.

So that means I shouldn't put a hitch on the back of my bike to pull a camper/trailer. -- Darren Clark http://www.flickr.com/photos/84373829@N00/ 2004 KLR-650 Fowlerville, MI Jud Jones wrote:
