Eric,
Once again,
we are (almost) in heated agreement.
There is another seekrit; =Ortlieb. Once you get past the sticker
shock, and you resting pulse slows to 90, you never look back. I got
mine at the

--very good condition/very serviceable for about 1/2 price.
As we ride more, we refine our gear to what works for us.
I started with zip lock bags placed in ballistic nylon saddle bags,
and it used to work OK for 250 mile day trips for me--usually about
6x-8x summer or 1 every two weeks during a summer. I found that I
wore out the bags before I was done with the excursion--not that I
had many...but all had the same effect--i got wet, again--my gear got
wet. Now, anything more than than a day trip gets the full Ortlieb
treatment--once I went Ortlieb, I have yet to get anything wet in
them. Or, wet inside my Seattle dry bags either.
And ziplocs do work great for keeping things separated/dry in the
Wolfman (=shameless plug) tank panniers and tank bag that are placed
there and left there until they are needed. If a ziploc bag gets a
lot of in and out treatment, it does not work well for me. shurg.
Ortlieb. just another word for KLR ziploc.
