I have the same problem here in Wisconsin. The local cop didn't know so he aswked the state militia, I mean stste patrol. They had no official ruling on it but said that I should make a right turn from the light and then make a U-turn. I pointed out that making a right turn from the far left lane was just as illegal as going through a light. The response was that I should just do what he said.

I had two of these on mine about three years ago. I don't believe that they made any difference to the lights, and only a small difference to my wallet, which is a nice change. Perhaps if they were lubricated with a little snake oil they would work better, but most of our snakes are 2500 miles away in Ottawa, out of touch. DC Bill Emmack wrote:

When I lived in Ohio and rode almost everyday I researched this extensively. What I came up with, which I ASSUME is similar in all states, is that there was a statute that said when a traffic control device was not functioning correctly you are to treat that intersection as a multi-way stop. Traffic lights (and the wires that control them) are traffic control devices. The wires are sensors that are there to turn the light when a vehicle (your motorcycle is a vehicle) is in that lane. If you are in that lane and it doesnt turn it is not functioning correctly and you are to treat it as a multi-way stop. I always waited several (at least two) cycles through the lights and when I never got a green, went when it was safe. Over several years I was pulled over twice for "running a red light" and both times explained the above to the officer. The second time I had to show him the statute (which I carried with me along with the Fed Regs that allow headlight modulators) and he too let me go. Somebody told me to do this and it seems to work most times. Pull up to where you are over the cut line juncture in the pavement and put down your kick stand directly over the juncture of the lines and rev it a little. Seems to work for whatever reason. Uh pull your kickstand up afterwards especially if you have disabled the safety switch or you will regret it. Criswell Criswell

Back in the 1970s, PA did not allow right turns on red, and many traffic signal sensors did not "see" bikes. It was a sad sight to see all the mummified skeletons of riders who waited an eternity for the green light that never came.....

I usually have good luck with stubborn traffic lights by using my hi-beams. Look for a sensor in the pavement, then flick your lights a few times. I have been doing this recently ... when I approach a light .. ride down the cut in the pavement with my clutch pulled in and rev the engine a fair amount whilst applying the breaks ... Either all the lights in my town have got better at noticing motorcycles recently or that trick really works. barnaby
