Has anybody here seen that tank up close and personal? My beef with the IMS tank really isn't its moulding (it works fine with the stock seat and etc.), but with the quality of the mounting hardware, which, frankly, stinks. I shouldn't need to fabricate my own brackets in order to mount a tank the way it should be mounted! Also, the shrouds are rather floppy, they aren't as stiff as you'd think, though they certainly would protect the radiator better than the stock shrouds which are no protection at all. And finally, these aftermarket tanks make it difficult to get to the radiator and reservoir to check the fluid level/add fluid, and take a bit of hacking to get a tank bag to worth with them. If you need the capacity, like the protection, and don't mind the limitations, the aftermarket oversized tanks are a great farkle, but the compatibility issues with the Corbin seat are getting me to reconsider my IMS tank. If I put it up for sale here in a week or two, don't be surprised! -E

As opposed to the aerospace quality of the rest of your KLR? A guy at CMC had one, looked cool to me. I didn't inspect it real closely, but it seemed OK, and a copuple of other regulars on the list have had the big IMS tanks for a long time with no major issues. At least, none that I have seen posted to the list. Also, in my experience, KLR's don't use much water. I have refilled my coolant tank only after clutch replacement. Cheers CA Stu

Mike, 95% of my riding is off road. I've made the modifications you recommended and have plus a Dual Star Brake bracket, Master cylinder guard, water pump guard and skid plate. Along with the skid plate was a low profile oil drain plug from Fred at Arrowhead. The area I ride in has occasional fallen trees that you have to bounce over, (and fall over), so I needed the armor. Since I have taken worse falls that before and not hurt anything but my pride. If all I went on was paved and dirt roads that would be the extent of my modifications. I weigh about 200lbs and take the KLR on a lot of tight trails with bumps and jumps so I bottom out the forks petty often. Because of that I will probably upgrade the fork springs. Other than that I will probably put lever and radiator guards on. I often hesitate to ride as agressively as I'd like because I'm agraid of going down on the exposed radiator. Again, there's that peace of mind thing. Mike A18
