what type of switch is this?
The switch being discussed isn't self canceling, it's a 'push to cancel'. I
think the push is easier as I use to return the stock switch beyond the
middle point (off position) as my gloves are a little bulky for feeling the
small switch. The 'push to cancel' is much easier with the gloves on. I
also like doing my long dirt rides with the lights off - especially in the
winter as I only ride every 7 or 8 days. Keeps more of the charge in the
battery.

That should read, "Geez I *hate* self-cancelers."

The stock bike w/stock switch is not self-cancelling. The switch we have been talking about has push-to-cancel. If your bike has self-cancelling then it was added.

Thank you Tom. I've got a couple of different bikes (and am easily
confused) so I couldn't remember at first that the KLR is "return to center
to cancel" as opposed to "push to cancel."

If you ever used one with push to cancle I think you would
understand. Plus it allows you to turn off the headlight, which comes
in handy incase of electrical problems. It moves the mirror so it is
unlikly to brake the housing in a tip over or crash. It also moves
the choke to a better position.
Worth $70 ????? Could wait until it falls over and the housing
brakes, but I just had mine replaced because I like the push to
cancle on the turn signals.

I've been thinking about getting one (eventually -- I've already been spending like a drunken sailor on stuff for my KLR. =) But does anyone know if the heated grips will make it hard to swap the switch console? In my case, the 16T cut the vibration at highway speed considerably.> Ditto what Randy Shultz said, except that I think the 16t is not really useful.

I just put the switch on my A17 at the same time I
updated the bars to renthals and added Hot Grip heated
grips. All the bar components/switches can be removed
from the bar by splitting into two pieces around the
bar; in otherwards, they don't need to slide off the
ends of the bars. I had to epoxy the left grip to the
bar itself. No problem removing the switches with the
left grip in place.
