The KZ1000P still has its original clutch after 76K miles, Try a different oil and see how she rolls... Something to consider. While it is normal for the clutch plates on a big single to stick from time to time, when it becomes chronic one of the possible causes is contaminated fiber plates. A solution is to 'boil out' the engine. You can use an off the shelf chemical or, as it was taught me you can actually get away with filling the crank with diesel, idle the bike until the engine is warmed up and then drain. You can get away with this because diesel works as both as a lubricant and a solvent. Work the clutch a lot to help cleanse the plates. Maybe this makes up for the fact that the Vision and Gold Wing couldn't wheelie being shaft drives. Norm Norm, It can happen with shaft drives. The Yamaha Venture Royale/Royal Star Venture suffers from the occasional sticking plates. With the Venture, when it happened, rocking the bike in first gear always freed the plates. As the engine sits, the fine film of oil can set up like a mild glue. Some bikes are more prone to the problem than others, with big singles suffering the most. Back in the 60s and 70s, it was just part of riding a big Brit single. Pat G'ville, NV [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

To test this yourself just warm it up a bit and then put it into gear on level ground and see if it pulls itself forward. If while in gear you can safely get your weight off the bike you will then feel if it is pulling forward. I am pretty sure it should not walk forward at all. If the wheel was off the ground (as on a center stand) then the wheel would turn but should not have enough force to move the weight of the bike forward. The amount of force for a properly adjusted clutch would very depending on the weight (and thus temp) of the oil, but should never get too high (whatever "high" is in this case). If you don't find it to pull when running at proper temp then it sounds like it is either just normal sticking of this type of beast or sticky fiber syndrome that Pat describes. -- Doug Herr doug@...

No, it's not working. Go for a ride and think of how you might fix it.... --- slicer50401 wrote:
