I must be mis-reading some of these messages, but I understood that the 'manufacturer' was contacted, but declined to any reply. ...BLEEP...BLEEP...BLEEP... (comments less touchy-feely, so best left to the key) Maybe the KLR list needs to be "Pleasantville", but I'd always prefer "New York City..." js - sorry of this sounds rough - life's a bitch sometimes

I think its more like they make it to fit most bikes and since the
bikes have so much variation expect to tweak bolt on products.
Nobody is saying you have to buy one, but expect to tweak if you do.

But that doesn't give the whiners anything to cry about. Everyone wants a turn key product, and with the current lack of even the most basic mechanical ability of today's "youth", they can't handle it. As with any aftermarket product, you might have to "tweak" it a bit. If everyone could do it with no adjustments, that would do 2 things. Give EVERYONE the opportunity to do it, and give those that shouldn't (due to lack of ability) be able to something (and now can) less to whine about. Like the one post said, the turning radius is more for one side than the other. If anything, you should be kissing Tim's @$$ cause he's preventing you from turning lock to lock at 80mph+, therefor saving your sorry @$$ from going down. Stop whining about a 1/8" or less clearance problem and go riding. The first time you need that huge clearance difference, you're already going down. Next thing I can see is another class action lawsuit cause someone couldn't hit the right lock at 100 and flipped into a ravine. Tim's now out of business cause someone can't ride, and the rest of us lose. Man, someone tell me why I re-sub'd? Must be the humor..... millerized (Thinking about selling his KLR to get away from the whining newb's)> > Dooden > A15 Green Ape > > >

You re-sub'ed because you missed us as much as we missed you. And I
for one have missed your $.02 worth the past few months. Glad to have
you back.

I have not seen tim's nerf bars (nor have I seen them installed on
your bike) but from what others have said about his other products,
it sounds like he makes a good product..and they look nice from the
picture. Tim's KLR is from the earlier years and the jigs and
fixtures that Kawasaki uses for the new KLR's may have been changed
or altered during repair or service
I have made parts for the KLR, a fork brace, tripple clamp, and other
parts. I have found Kawasaki's tolerance limit is almost 1mm or .040"
on somethings. On my bike the upper and lower tripple clamps are off
by 1/2mm or .020" between fork tube centers. It's a little hard to
make a perfect aftermarket product when the original manufacturer
doesn't make a perfect product.

Randy, Add my email address to your address book and then contact me come late March. I live just below the Lake in the Carson Valley and can show you plenty of great rides along the eastern Sierra and can show you a lot of the routes from the Tahoe NF down to the Stanislaus NF. The folks that have been to the Eastern Sierra Rendezvous can attest I know where they hid the good stuff.
