wind screens

Mark, You've made me rethink the whole tall windscreen issue. Thanks. I have questions though. I never looked through the stock windscreen as it was too low, very distorted, and only barely transparent anyway. Do you actually look through the +11" Clearview, i.e, you don't have to slouch or sit up uncomfortably straight? And is it really a "clear view"? Does it distort or become "foggy" over time? How difficult is it to remove and reinstall? Thanks, Paul Opinionated Redneck Loudmouth A**hole and most definately not an English Major. At 6' tall, I look over it by... I don't know... 6-8 inches maybe. I'm not really at all sure of the measurement, but I do look over it with room to spare. On this one at least, (11+), there is an outward bend near the top that I assume helps direct the air flow more upward than it would go if the shield was entirely straight. That's a great thing on the road, but - at least for me - the area of that bend is about in line with the end of the front fender. It causes a distortion kind of like a fish eye lens, or like looking through bifocals at the wrong angle. You can easily adjust yourself to deal with it, but I wouldn't want this shield on if I were going to be doing anything more than logging roads and such. You can slouch down behind the windshield in rain, and I've done that a few times, but normal riding is comfortably upright. The rest of the shield is very clear, it's just that small area where it "bends" outward. I certainly hope that it won't fog over time, and assume that it won't, but I've just had mine for a few months.

I have a dash and outlet, ( http://klr6500.tripod.com/12voutlet.htm ), and the windscreen screws through the fairing and into the dash to mount. If I didn't have the dash, I don't think that it would be any more difficult than the stock shield, except that you also use the two side fairing brace locations for the extended tabs of the windshield. (The Cleaview goes between the fairing and brace.) With my dash, and the wiring for the outlet and all, it's kind of a hassle to fool with... My 11" over stock is wonderful. The stock and the 4" over just channeled air directly into my face. It keeps the bugs and the wind off of my chest and head. I wouldn't go back. It even looks kind of cool if you have a Givi box on the back ;)
