If I backfire through my nads while taking a leak my boots are the last thing I'll be checking. Say, what's this got to do with motorcycles, anyway? -- Dave Morrow Vermilion, Ohio "it is better to go into a turn slow and come out fast, than go into a turn fast and come out dead." - Stirling Moss

A backfire will happen if the muffler header pipe is leaking or cracked also. Criswell Stuart Mumford wrote:

I had a nad backfire. Hence, I'm expecting my 3rd child to be born within a week. I think the KLR not only is a chick magnet, it makes one's semen extra-potent. CA Stu "it is better to go into a turn fast and come out sideways, than go into a turn fast and come out dead." - CA Stu

I don't know if this helps at all, but I was talking to a Kawa mechanic the other day, and he told me that surging on low throttle is very common on the KLR. He said its got something to do with the needle sitting too low in the carb (which needle I don't know) and he showed me a tiny washer that he uses to lift the needle so it sits a little higher. dunno if that helps, t. -----Original Message----- From: roklinge@... When I ride the bike I experience an ever so slight hesitation/surging motion during acceleration and during normal cruising speed of 55. This motion is slight and when looking at the tach, I see no variation in the needle to indicate speeding up or slowing down of engine rpm. The exhaust note also seems flat. The sensation is more of a seat of the pants thing (no jokes here...) after 32 years of riding, it just doesn't feel right. My BMW, nor my Harley (no jokes here either...see BIKER Oct. 2002 page 40) do this, so it's not my vivid imagination. Clutch doesn't seem to slip... Only thing I notice is a rapid backfiring during engine braking. I had the bike in for the 6,000 mile tune up @ 5,500 miles. Any clues or similarities to a problem you have fixed would be greatly appreciated. Please respond to roklinge@.... motorcycle carrier for jeep wrangler?

Post by L L » Tue Apr 22, 2003 10:22 pm

I had one of these with a class three hitch on my cherokee xj. Went camping and put 2 dirtbikes and gass on it and about 250 lbs of camping gear inside and on the roof rack. I had a 3 inch lift and adaleafs, I dang near bottomed out. so I went to a 6 inch lift with 3/4 ton rear dodge leaf springs instead of the 1/4ton stock springs with an adaleaf. If you put this together with a klr the rear will sag pretty bad, I would at least get overload springs (JC Whitney) if you are going to do it.It can be done. as for the hitch, ive never had a problem, ever. I tow often and 4x so i drag it and bash it alot. you have a real frame on your jeep instead of a uniframe, you can drill extra holes and add more bolts to beef it up also. good luck.
