Oh yeah, I forgot to mention in my last post that to get the KLR to do anything useful in the dirt you have to lower the gearing. I put a 14t front sprocket on and it made a world of difference. I have done 350+ mile days with it on the highway with that gearing as well and it still works ok. They aren't slow. They idle just fine. In some ways they are a perfect
mix of simplicity and sophistication. Kick start only, air cooled, two
valves, maintainance-free electronic ignition, battery optional. One of
the best handling bikes of their day, and still good in the twisties
even now.
