Re: TC Fuses

Can someone please tell me the correct size fuses to use in the electrical system of the TC? I blew the Accessories fuse and when I took it out it had 35A written on it - surely this would have melted wiring long before blowing the fuse if it were a 35 amp fuse.

What's the correct fuse amperage for a TC? I can't find this
information anywhere in the Brown Owners manual, TC's Forever, the MG T-
Series Restoration Guide or the MG workshop Manual. Moss lists 35 and
50 amp fuses, so I assume it's either one of those or a combination of
the two.

the Control Box heading "(c) Fuses Two 35 amps. in circuit of
accessories."
Headings (a) and (b) deal with the Cut-out and Regulator respectively.

Those are British 35 amp fuses, not American 35 amp fuses. Different rating standards are/were used in the 2 countries. I think our MG 35 amp Lucas fuses translate to something like 17amp American.

Hi John,

I bought some 35's from Moss, so I assume they're the correct type. I thought 35 amps was awfully high for this application and the size of the wiring. Didn't know there was a different rating system.

I'm not an EE so I can't explain the difference. All I know is that if
you replace a 35 amp Lucas fuse with a 35 amp US fuse you can let the
smoke out. My best guess is that somewhere in the rating systems used
there is a difference in figuring surge capacity vs steady current
capacity. There used to be some good information on the Vintage Triumph
Register web site, but now you have to be a VTR member to get to it.
