tank fix, Neil try welding a nut on a scrap flat steel then drill two
counter sunk holes in your tank bracket,
and secure the works with two small bolts. good luck Rich TA2816.

BlankHi Gang, In my exuberance to get the car running after it's winter hibernation, the chokes were sticky
and the cable broke just behind the dash and I have to take it out to repair. Who rebuilds these cables? What is required to replace
the inner wire? What holds the wire onto the shaft of the knob?

Hello Listers!

This is not my day. I went to the garage to start TC 1087 for an
evening trip and after the usual procedure pulled the starter. The
engine fired with a strange noice and I turned it off immediately. Is
seems the starter did not disengage, and the engine turns the starter
making this noice. I stopped after only 1- 2 seconds. The main spring
in the starter drive assembly is now visible behind the flywheel and it
seems stuck there.

Do you think any serios damage was done in this situation? How to cure
this? Is it a common problem with our cars, and must I remove the
starter motor to check?

Odd, Put a spanner on the square end of the starter armature and turn it out of engagement. Otherwise put the car in gear and rock it back and forth by pushing it. This often works. It is caused by wear on the starter ring gear catching the Bendix gear on the starter. It is this problem, and others, which caused a move to pre-engaged starters on modern cars.

them off the car and buffing them?

BlankHi Gang,
I was out late last night and when I fired up the TC and started home I had NO headlights. The side lights and tail lights were on
only the head lights and the fog lamp would not work, could this be a blown fuse. My multimeter has a dead battery and is useless
today. any ideas?

I too agree. We should all volunteer to help create this type of list.
The BMW motorcycle club membership also included a small 3/8" x 3"h x 2" wide book that listed all members with phone numbers and address along with what type of help they were willing to offer. They could offer mechanical help, sightseeing info, trailer to pick up non runners etc. The list of help was endless. You could opt out of the list if desired.
Being a small book it would fit in the underseat tool storage box. This meant it was always with you.
The book layout was simple just name ,address phone and a bunch of colums that were ticked off as to what they could offer.

I have just started dismantling TC5253 & have encountered a couple of?minor?problems, which I am sure is only the beginning. First it looks like I can remove the brake pedal by using a drift to remove the pivot pin, my question is , does it make any difference which direction you withdraw it from? & 2. A PO has buchered the inner dash board, I have a new one to install but can't figure out how to remove the bad one, is there some trick to it? Thanks for any assistance. I have looked in the Blower manual, TC's Forever & the Brown book but these problems are not addressed.
