Welcome to our 814th member

1947 TC 5524 XPAG 6208 ?
who wrote" TC 5524 was restored in the early 80's by the PO to be a show
car. While not exactly concours and historically accurate, the car has its
charms and did win some trophies. Now with a few scratches, it's ready to be a
driver. My friend Bud Silvers (TC 8192) talked me into buying a TC using
dirty tricks like letting me drive his car and lending me his copy of TC's
Forever. He went with me to look at it and when we left,he said if I didn't buy
it , he would. How could anybody hold up to pressure like that?
The vin plate says the engine is 6208 but I don't know if the engine in the
car is 6208. The brass tag on the left top side of the engine doesn't look
stock. Is there any other way of determining the engine number?

and the remains of TC8827/exu to rebuild and the remains of a TA
He wrote
Some time ago I was approached about joining mg-tabc but somehow didn't do
it at that moment and never got round to it since.
I have been stimulated to do it now.
I have 2 TC's and a TA - well it would be more truthful to say that I have a
TC and the makings of another TC and also of a TA.
The TC which is complete is no: TC2606 XPAG 3235 made on 21 April 1947.
It was donated to myself and a friend as a heap of bits and over a couple of
winters we rebuilt it as a racer with all the chassis mods - roll cage etc.
The body was panelled in mostly aluminium and the rear mudguards are
fibreglass and we had cycle type front guards made. We raced it for a few seasons and
after an unsuccessful attempt to supercharge it we put in an overbored XPAW
engine with a big valve head. I still have the original engine.
I brought it out again a couple of years ago (it not having run since 1985)
and promptly blew a head gasket doing a hillclimb. The compression was too
high so I put in 2 head gaskets.
Anyway - I am now too old to race so I am putting it back to a road car with
proper metal front guards and running board. I am retaining the roll cage
and telescopic dampers and the rear axle location rods. I have rplaced the
negative camber front axle with the original and for the moment will keep the
XPAW engine in so that I can get a bit of fun out of the car. I will replace the
big valve head with one that has been changed to suit unleaded petrol.
The colour,by the way is blue with blue interior.
I have also recently purchased the remains of TC8827/exu to rebuild as I
think I have enough spare bits gathered over the years to make a whole car. I
believe the car was reimported to the UK about 1963 but know nothing of its
history in USA or here in UK. It is at a very early stage. The original engine
was XPAG 9528 and was not with the car(chassis). It was made on 26May 1949.
I also have the remains of a TA but that is another story.
I learnt to drive on TC8719 in 1955 (made on 17 May 1949) My father bought
it in 1951 and we competed in it in numerous rallies with some success. It was
cream with red trim and was sold to a Mr Pat O'Donovan in 1956 with whom I
have been in touch. It was shipped to the USA in the mid 60's and I would love
to trace it. The engine was Stage 2 tuned and was number XPAG9438 (the
factory record shows XPAG 9449) - but it wasn't changed in my father's time.
There was a rumour that it was the 1949 EarlsCourt Motor Show car in London for
MG.
I had a TC in the 1970's which is I believe now in Switzerland (it is TC1326
XPAG 1938)
I also have a TD - but you're not interested in those. I use it as my
competition car.
I also have an M - MGA coupe(ex US) - a couple of MGB's and an MGF.
I look forward to enjoying the tabc forever website.

Re: Update from Jim
Hello group,
and thanks Jim for the intro. I'm new to TC's and to any vintage
cars for that matter. I'm really a vintage motorcyclist with a
modest stable counting a Triumph, a Norton, an AJS and my prize
possesion, a Nimbus with a sidecar which is Danish like myself. I
have reached the golden age where four wheels seem to make more
sense than two or even three. I look forward to draw from your TC
wisdom as I start from a clean sheet with the car I have aquired
essentially being un-restored although it to a large extent will
probably remain so. My fingers are numb from replacing the glass in
the windshield today.

Good Morning Bjorn;
WELCOME TO THE GROUP!!!! We are glad to have you hear. I think you will
find us interesting. Sometimes we digress from cars, but that is probably
the nature of such a diverse group. If you have any questions, or if you
need any parts this is the place to come. Be aware that there are many many
many years of experience here and there are just as many opinions as there
are members on some subjects. The vast amount of knowledge and experience
here makes the group a very valuable resource. You will also become a
knowledgeable resource in time. For now you experience with vintage
motorcycles may give us all a new perspective.
OK I have rambled on enough. Thanks for joining us. I hope you will not be
among the silent majority, but rather offer your ideas from time to time.
