I will clarify the pink engine issue for any newer members.

I rebuilt the engine on my first TC in 1961 at the tender age of 19 and finished it in a gleaming coat of Rustoleum red spray paint but, for whatever reason, decided I didn't like the red so I sprayed right over it with a couple of coats of Rustoleum "ivory". I thought it looked terrific but after it had been run for a while, the red started to bleed through and blend with the ivory to the point where I ended up with a very pink engine. Time constraints and the fact that it was my only transportation did not allow me the luxury of being able to remove the engine yet again to repaint it. As time went by, I grew to like my pink engine if only because nobody else had one.

My present TC has had a Volvo engine installed, I understand, since the early 1970s. This engine is not pink but, should the need arise to remove it at any time, I very well might paint it pink purely as a favor to certain listers so that they can snicker and make snide remarks which, I know, gives them immense pleasure.
I would certainly like to hear from anyone who is driving a chevy (V8?) powered TC as, to apply that much HP and torque to so pathetic a little chassis obviously requires far more testosterone than I have left and this guy probably has some interesting stories to tell.

By the way, does anyone have any experience in installing an MGA dif into a TC? I became quite proficient at changing rear half shafts and fishing the little broken piece out with a coat hanger but I would rather not do that anymore. My sources indicate that an MGA has about 3 more inches of track than a TC. Is this a problem?

Perhaps some careful attention to the timing will remove the pink"ing"?
Contrarywise some careful mistiming of the Volvo engine could convert it to
an enviable pink, tho' it might not last that long!

Badger ...why do you have a TC...everything about it is a load of crap and you do seem to derive pleasure from tearing anything and everything out that was put in it here in lil `ole blighty, and replacing it with anything so long as it did`nt........just an observation.....

My, my, Mr. Tweed. We are getting our knickers in a knot now aren't we?

Since you asked.....
I owned a TC for forty years, (my first car), and I kept it, pretty much, all British and all original, even to the diabolical steering box (but excepting a pink engine). When I finally sold it, I thought I would miss it but, I didn't miss it. In fact, I finally realized I had hated that car for forty years and only kept it out of some misguided sense of obligation because it was my first car. Hell, back when I bought it in 1961, what I really wanted was an MGA but I couldn't afford one so I "settled" for a TC. Let's face it, even when the TC was brand new, it was a prewar anachronism built to keep the company afloat until a more up to date design could be produced and these cars were never meant to be anything other than a cheap and cheerful, bottom end sports car anyway and they have little or nothing in common with MG's sparkling.and very successful prewar competition cars such as the fabulous K3, J4, and so on. I swore I would never own another TC but when a Volvo powered example in a horrible sky blue color with wide white wall tires and MGA seats appeared on ebay not long ago, for not a lot of green, I thought it might provide some modest entertainment and since it was already bastardized, there would certainly be no obligation to be true to Mr. Kimber. The best part of these cars is their appearance, they are truly a handsome looking car and I intend to maintain this single quality in mine but otherwise, there will be no restrictions.

I mean no disrespect to the Brits, Old Blighty, Jos. Lucas, the Union of the Skinners, or Mr. Kimber but I do not view these cars as some sort of sacred object to be worshiped, I view them as a means to some enjoyment and fun and what's more, I feel that this is the spirit in which they were originally produced and sold.

Harrrumph. So there!
Badger

Hey Badger, Do you have a set of the handmade Persian carpets in your
present TC like you had in your "other" TC? I thought those carpets added an
element of sophistication and elegance not found in many other TC's.
However, talking about snobbery, I thought that very snobbish - handmade
Persian carpets in a TC!

Hi Mark,
Naw, those were just cheap ones from Target or K-Mart or something but, since you mentioned it, I'll tell you where that idea came from. Back in the early sixties, I met a kid about my age who had a TD with beautiful, fitted Oriental carpets in it and I asked him where he got them. What he did was he got hold of one of his mothers irreplaceable, antique Oriental rugs that happened to be in storage and he cut it up for his TD. He actually did quite a nice job and even bound the edges all by hand. 'Course when his Mom found out about it, she went totally ballistic and practically disowned the poor kid and he paid dearly for his transgression. I just thought it was so cool that I have always had Oriental or Persian rugs in my TC and , yes, when I get around to it, I will have them in my current TC/Volvo as well even if I have to find some that are made in England just to keep poor Tweed and Reddo happy.
