Listers,
I pulled my engine this weekend to change out the clutch plate and put
in a lightened flywheel. I only have about 4K on this clutch plate but
it's always felt like it was slipping. I got it from Moss Motors years
ago - it's a light tan color and almost appears to be made of some type
of slick, hard plastic - nothing like the clutch plate I'm replacing it
with. Anyone have any idea what material it could have been made from?
And can someone please tell me if there's anything special to do when
setting up the clutch? Not a lot of adjustment down there on a TC but
maybe I did something wrong the last time I installed one.
Thanks,
Gene Gillam

Re: Clutch Plates
Gene,
Have the flywheel and the pressure plate balanced as an assembly, the disc keeps changing position so should not be included during balancing. Install the disc the correct way around, it should be marked " flywheel side." or something like that.

Re: Clutch Plates
Hi Gene-
I had the same problem so I changed to a diaphragm style clutch disc and
pressure plate from a late Series IV or early Series V Sunbeam Alpine. It
is 7 1.2" dia with 10x1 spines and fits just fine in the TC bell housing.
You will need to use an offset CARBON (not roller) throw out bearing (from a
1500cc MG midget - I got mine from Bob Grunau).
Be sure to follow Gene Roth's advice and have the flywheel and cover
balanced.
If you have any question let me know

Re: Clutch Plates
Hi Gene-
As a FU to last nights note, the installation of the Sunbeam Alpine clutch
assy does require that the dowel pins be realigned in the flywheel. They
are the same dia as the stock but the Sunbeam has 3 mounting holes @ 120
degrees, whereas the stock TC had only 2 holes @ 180 degrees
