hood fitting

Post by jeffrey.townsend » Mon May 30, 2005 1:47 pm

I m currently fitting hood to TB 0489 and finding Cliff Knight s article very helpful. A couple of points though: 1. I intend to fix rear frame hoop to support straps and hood as this appears to be correct. Does anyone know what the original fixing was and if still available? 2. How does the hood finish at the front on both sides? Cliff s article refers to this and figure 7 but figure 7 appears to be missing. It seems that the outer sidescreen flap and piping are taken round the front and finish under the hidem band but how far? I can t find a photo that shows this clearly. I fitted a new Moss UK supplied hood to my TC last Christmas. The hood is NOT attached to the bows, only the hood support straps. The front corners are quite tricky to get right. I just wrapped it around as far as I could with the amount of material available at the front of the hood which was about 2 1/2 inches. You need to get the inner side-screen flap lined up with the windscreen frame as well (it needs to sit in the rebate on the screen side). Quite a lot of material has to be cut away to get a neat appearance with plenty of tacks being used being careful to put them where they will be covered by the hidem band. I found it best to trim the surplus material away a small amount at a time otherwise you will end up cutting away too much! Worth the effort though and I am very happy with the end result. 1. TB 0487 says that his original hood fixings were 3/16 whitworth countersunk roundhead screws in cup washers, bolted under the frame hoop with a thin square headed bolt and no washer - he feels that TB 0489 should be the same. Re 2. Just dont know1 Clive ====================================

hood fitting

Thanks to all who replied to my questions. Consensus seems to be that the TB hood is fixed to the rear frame hoop with the webbing and the front sides of the hood also are bolted to the frame through the metal finishers on the ends of the hidem band. There are holes in my frame to support this view. Jeff Townsend Cambs, England TB 0489 -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hood fitting

Post by Geoff Broad » Sun Feb 24, 2019 8:49 am

Good afternoon MGers

I am in the final stages of fitting the hood on TC6996.

A couple of questions

Do the two press studs at the rear corners of the hood attach the inner flap or outer hood fabric? If the outer which seems logical to stop the wind blowing it out how far round the tacking strip should the last fixing be for the inner flap/material?

Thanks

Geoff

In a warm and sunny Suffolk
