CECIL KIMBER

Post by Joe Gates » Thu Feb 03, 2005 1:30 pm

As usual, I am sure many listers will nod their heads in the more or less direction of Abingdon and King's Cross station tomorrow in memory of CK. I intend to fire the engine of my favourite MG at about 17h00 SA time (?15h00 GMT) and drive over to the local Veteran and Vintage Club for my weekly ale. VVC does not stock Old Speckled Hen, so perhaps I will buy a few en route as this will be a sadly special wake, being the 60th anniversary of his death. Dear Group, Let's join together today (12, April) to remember Cecil Kimber's birthday by driving, working on or at least looking at our wonderful M.G.'s. Also one could raise a toast if so inclined. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CECIL! Best regards, John Libbert Milford, OH J2 3118 TC 2138 MGA 70528 MGB ? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

To the memory of Cecil kimber, an early hot rodder, who used off the Morris shelf parts to produce inexpensive, but beautifully styled cars that (were) ARE fun to drive. His legacy is the thousands of MGs that are still loved and cared for today 119 years after his birth. Thanks Cecil Play with the car today. gene olson

If I've read my MG history well enough, as MG evolved from the M type through the C,D,F,J,K,L, (OHC models) the parts became more and more MG specific. MG didn't revert to the modified Morris stuff until Nuffield sold MG to Morris and stopped the racing. Blake

Fellow Listers, I was asked by an Australian acquaintance if I knew where Cecil Kimber was buried. The answer I gave was as follows: Cecil Kimber was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium (North London) and his ashes were taken to Chichester (Sussex) Harbour where his boat (Sea Witch) was moored. They were scattered in the sea by his two co-Directors, Eric Graham and Charles Russell. At the time, Cecil was a Director of the specialist piston firm, Specialloid.
