Perhaps more directly applicable, I have 5 4 post 110v lifts I use for storage. Generally they use a single hydraulic cylinder mounted under one of the tracks to lift the lift. The other track is laid over the end beams and bolted in place but is otherwise not position-dependent. It should be fairly easy to add another set of bolt holes to mount the track without the ram at whatever place you would like. The steel beams front and rear are pretty thick so it may take a hefty drill to drill the large holes needed. This would limit the usefulness of any included drip trays or jacking tray. My 110v lift takes a full 2 minutes to rise to the top. They're good for storage but somewhat slow for continuous use. I also recommend cutting plywood to completely fill in the space between the treads and putting absorbent pads or trays under the likely drips as otherwise it's very easy to get oil drips all over the car below. --Alex Haugland TC6567 On May 24, 2018, at 6:13 PM, "Michael Graziano mgraziano1@gmail.com [mg-tabc]" mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote: Anyone know the distance between the wheels of a TC by chance? Mine is stored an hour away at the moment. I'm planning on purchasing a 4 post lift for my new house and need to make sure it'll fit as I'm doing my initial research. I also plan on storing my '66 442 under the TC. So super narrow car up top, and super wide one below..... I may not find a lift that will fit those needs. Fascinating though all this talk of lifts is, I was more interested in what a "442" was! Well Wikepedia tells me that it is an Oldsmobile, originally called "4-4-2" which sounds more like a locomotive wheel designation...of course most of you knew that, but us Brits are ignorant of such matters!

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
Thanks everyone. I think I ID'd a few lifts that would work. The width between the ramps is about 39", so hard to get on, but possible.
The term 442 was amorphous. Originally is stood for 4 barrel, 4 on the floor, dual exhaust. In '66, it changed to 4 barrel, 400ci engine, and dual exhaust since you could order a 442 with a two speed jetaway transmission. However, my '66 has a factory 6 barrel intake (3 two barrel carbs).

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
It's very simple. double the voltage half the amps. Higher voltage makes for better motor starts, but running characteristics are identical: heat, speed, efficiency.
Sort of. The wire size required is dependant on the current. That's why higher voltages are preferred, smaller and cheaper wires are required. That's also why transmission is done at such high voltage. At 69 Kilovolts an amazing amount of power can be transmitted on a very modest piece of copper. When you use higher voltage the line loses due to resistance in conductors is also reduced. Economically, over all, generally speaking, in most cases, 9 times out of 10, usually higher voltage is better. Your results may vary

As it has been described to me, using 220 takes half the amps of 110 and as a result the motor can run more efficiently. I can't explain the physics behind it but the lift time is supposed to faster and therefore less run time. This is from the lift manufacturers I spoke with years ago when selecting my own lifts.

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
As an industry standard number, 1000 volts is lost per mile of high voltage power transmission lines in N America. Not a big deal, usually.
Generally speaking, two phase motors do start quicker, and the reason why they do is the same reason why two phase carries a well understood higher risk of fatal electrocution, despite using smaller/cheaper wires. Three phase, common in whole house air conditioner systems in the US, also carries a high risk. I am talking about bad wiring, not anything bad about 2 or 3 phase in general.
