My friend has a TD (XPAG engine) that is getting gas in the engine oil. He's put in the nitrophyl floats, new shut- off valves and even a fuel pressure regulator set a 1 & 1/2 pounds. Does anyone know why gas is getting into the oil and how to correct it? Thanks.

 He might be running too rich a mixture. Choke stuck on?  Needle jet seals shot. I'd remove the carburetor tops and  pistons, turn on the fuel pump and with a tourch (flashlight )!! Look into the carbs and see if gas is spilling out the top of the center jet. If so, that's your problem.  I prefer using old original style needle/seats and floats over "improved " items that often fail.  All else fails, call Joe Curto.Chip Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Checking the fuel level in the carburetor bowel. Too high fuel level will cause excessive fuel in the intake manifold.

It is easy set by bending the float arms using a 11 mm drill. See instructions on SU site.

Does the motor sound right when running?  Perhaps there is debris in the tank that travels to the float valves and despite his putting in new floats and valves the debris creates the same condition after he cleans it out.  I have that issue from time to time with my old tractors that have a gravity feed fuel system.  Easier to fill the crankcase with gas if the float valve cannot fully shut off.  With a TD seems like it would have to happen while the engine and fuel pump are running.

These carbs are very sensitive to float height. If they shut off too early the engine may not start. Shut off too late and fuel will dribble up over bridge when key turned on. Each time you adjust float height, trying to get it just right, I use a paper towel to sop up the fuel in the bowl each time, and then replace the float bowl tops, and turn on the key to check fuel level (float height). Once it is corrected, change the oil and oil filter. It the problem started after "jet bearing kits" were installed, there had been a problem with the thickness of the top jet bearing washer (#33 Moss catalog) for many years, and that #33 caused carbs to always be rich.
