Sill plates to letter or not to letter
Does anyone know if the early TCs (3409) had lettered door sill plates?
Clausager said on page 41 of "MG T Series" The door sill plates were
originally of this neat lettered design until plain sill plates were
introduced on later TCs. Mike sherrell states on page 217 "TCs Forever" the
sill plates were plain except on pre-war cars.
Also how were they original held in place nail or scews and what kind of
head.

Roland,
I don't believe that the early TCs had a sill plate installed at or by the
factory. Perhaps none of the TCs did.

Hi Roland
I am in the process of tearing down TC3586, which was last run in 1956 and
put away and untouched (literally) since then. This car is mostly
undisturbed. It had plain aluminum sill plates attached by small slotted
oval head screws. I believe Sherrell is accurate on this point.

Rolland
I think the sill plates on my car are original, no lettering, held down
with small brass wood screws, think they were flat head, I know they
were slotted. If you need to know the screw size, will take one out.

Rolland,
My '46 TC had plain sill plates held by slotted
screws.
Looked original to me.

Re: Sill plates to letter or not to letter
the parts list gives a part number for the early cill plates, finished at
body number 4836 and the later, assume un-lettered commencing at body number
4837.
BTW different numbers are given given for left and right plates and not as
the repro ones which are identical.
Unfortunately with the difficulty of correlating body/chassis numbers your
question is difficult to answer.

Re: Sill plates to letter or not to letter
Rolland, On the original MMM & T-series cars we have disassembled we have
found the sill plate screws to be #4 x 5/8" slotted raised countersunk (oval
head). We use stainless sheet metal screws for better grip (than original
wood screws) as heads are identical. Be sure to countersink the sill plates
sufficiently, drill pilot holes into the ash, and use beeswax as a lube so
the small screw doesn't snap off. tommm
