Hello all,
We have been having a heated debate on the SVW list about radiator header tanks. In my research for the TB I have not been able to find a factory photo of a TB in which the header tank was black although this is the popular opinion. They are always light coloured in these pics. Further research has shown that The WA and late TA and a 1939 VA were painted this way...again in Abingdon photos. I have looked at original TB tanks that were never serviced in cars that have sat in barns most of their life and these were silver with black over that or just silver. The fins and radiator were black...just the header and small brackets were silver. The infamous TC prototype photos which show a TB engine with TB carbs and a TB tappet side plate in the bay also show a light coloured header tank. IMHO there is more to this than the factory practice of "gilding the lily" for photos. Any opinions ?
Cheers,
John
