Dick Knudson reduex

I am a member of long standing in the T register, in 1967 when I thought I was the only person who had a TD I floundered about sourcing parts and putting up with the abuse of parts people (they were to lazy to look on their shelves for parts I knew were there), and later on I discovered the MG T Register, at my first Gathering (Jug End) I was amazed and absolutely flabbergasted in seeing so many of the cars I owned and loved in one spot. Dick Knudson and Frank Churchill made that possible, he made this list possible and he made all of us in the business possible, now I am not meaning to say that Dick is directly responsible what I am saying is that he and Frank for the first time in this country that I know of put together a cohesive list of owners in a pre-computer day, and there was a movement that was started and other people picked up the ball and it grew. I know that the MGCC was in full swing in the 1960s but they may have been on the moon to a young boy in Queens Village New York. If any of you people can remember back to the late 60s you may remember that people thought we were nuts, why buy a 15 to 20 year old "Foreign" car of dubious merits when you could buy a Chevy. I always considered myself to be a mechanical person, I was trained as and aircraft mechanic and have spent all of my working life repairing automobiles and components, but when I look back on the accomplishments of others I pale in comparison, could I have invented the airplane, or build and automobile before the concept of the automobile existed, but after the accomplishments of others I can fix and even improve on their invention, I can even criticize the original invention but no my fellow list members I could not have throughout up an entire new technology, nor could I have the stamina to keep what has become a international club going for 40 years Maybe Dick works on the theory of why buy the cow when the milk is free. If you want information that the Register has then you should join the Register, as for the fellow who lost his SASE and never got an answer well did you try to contact Dick and remind him of your question. while I am sure that everyone on this list loves their cars and has a burning passion to keep them alive, remember that 40 years ago the best we could have hoped for is that we would have had a small local group of enthusiasts. Now before any of you guys think I am on the "payroll" or am related to Dick I am not, I too have some issues with the Register but I know what has been done for me and I appreciate it, imagine where the Renault Dauphine club would be today had it had a Champion such as MG T series had. Well said Joe! Its easy to see the short side of things when you are fairly new on the scene. It takes an understanding of where we have come from to truly appreciate what you have. Regarding Dick, I have found him to be most helpful when exploring the information pool. In my case it was Lester Cars and Dick, fortunately, was one of the people who recognized the need to document the story and did so in a published interview with Harry before he passed on. My first TD in 1957 changed my outlook on cars as a hot rodder. To this day, I am thankful for the many great experiences and fine people I have come to know in the process of "fix'n up" old British cars. Thanks for putting it out there and keeping it straight. Let's not get all Gaa Gaa over this issue again. Perhaps we could move on a bit to other things. Even those of us who have been TC owners since one could buy a new one off the showroom floor, find the "short" side of this issue to have some merit but not worth much more than a short grumble. Best Regards to All Dick Shaler

Jeo, That was very well put and I agree with everything you said. I just went over and found my old MG T Register plaque, I was member 4122 way back when. I think it is time I rejoined the Register. Could you email me the address and dues information. Thanks, Bob TC4956.......assembled March 8, 1948

You can get an application downloaded online at http://www.nemgt.org/ for a membership in the register. Be sure to use your old register number because that number is still on file and stays with your car that was registered before. Carlyle Merritt
