What valve cover was used on the early TCs? My engine has the polished aluminum one with the MG octagon on the flip lid of the "oil adding hole". This lid is held down with a turn knob when closed.
Hearsay from an unreliable source told me these aluminum valve covers were used on all early TCs. Anyone know the likely answer?

On another subject - I've almost completed a bad weather TC. I now have a complete set of early wings - fronts, rears, and running boards. In combination with a TC steering wheel that Ben Cordsen is sending, I'll be able to set up in the middle of the living room floor, turn on the TV to the Tour de France or Giro and race behind all those wonderful European cyclists - regardless of the weather. 7 year old Zack and his sister Alyea will probably come over and join me - they'll supply the engine sounds!

Sherrell discusses this in "TC's Forever" on p.56. He indicates that the cast cover was started in '46 with XPAG 2020 and ended with XPAG 2965. This would cover the range of approximately TC1425 to TC2368.

Tom my friend Frank Graham (who may be on this list) had lots of research
regarding when those V/covers were used. There were some very nice repros
about 20 years ago. If it looks good use it. How are the carburettors

Just this week I got to see an interesting piece of info...it is a spec sheet from Morris Motors Limited: Specification 259 for model MG series T.C Midget. Export Condition No. 51. General. Year 1948 sheet No 5 Section Chassis details....Power Unit: It lists part/drg.No.s 24076 and 24077...Support bracket for Air Cleaner, Front & rear resp. but in a column down the right hand side states 'With Alum Valve Cover use 24162 & 24163. Can we deduce from this that in 1948 you could get the aluminium valve cover as an option??. It would appear so, as if it was intended for use on the earlier models then why does it not specify that? Another interesting item on this spec sheet is part no. 24049...Starting Handle...reqd. if not bumpers fitted and no. 22401...Starting Handle...reqd. only when Bumpers fitted...... Yes I know, only in the USA, but it'is interesting to find that there were two starting handles.!! Which one do you have???
