Re: Radiator Slats
Skip and Martin,
I agree with Skip, slats match interiors. I have a green TD ( OK I know its
not a TC ) with lighter green upholstery and the original rad slats were
light green to match the seats. This car had never been apart or painted
when I got it in about 1975. The slightly lighter green rad slats look very
nice and are a nice subtle colour change from the body.

Hi Martin:
Go to this page from the "MG mythis and FAQ's" site, this will take you to
the the "detalis" page this URL will take you to:
http://www.mgcars.org.au/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm
Scroll down the page PAST the paint formula charts, scroll on down to the
chart marked "Chassis", and read what it says there about radiator-slat
colours. Might help. Best regards,
Sam

Radiator Slats
Lads and Ladies:
My TC, No. 5350, has original black paint, green upholstery, and black grill slats.
This is an interesting discussion.

HI to all Interesting subject. A few years ago at a N.E.M.G.T. G.O.F.
George Eyeson Was a guest, and I asked him this asame question. He stated
that all radiator slats weree painted the same as the interior. And I
figured that was the final word for me.

Re: Radiator Slats
Thanks to everyone who responded to my query. I received email privately as
well as on this list regarding the topic. The issue was not resolved
conclusively as there were differing opinions that had excellent
qualifications and authority supporting them, however for my own purposes
the question was answered.
Based upon the information I have received (and you don't have to accept
this...) here is my theory: During the four years of TC production there
were at least two shades of green for the body color, Woodland Green and
Almond Green. What time periods each were used I don't know, however they
appear to be intermittent. When the lighter shade was used, which was close
to the upholstery color, the slats would be body color. When the darker
shade was used, the slats would be lighter to match the upholstery. At
least one person with credible first hand knowledge states an exception to
this, however, he was referring to a black car. Some say they think it is
unlikely MG would bother with two colors on the same car. That might be so,
but I understand that MG was very concerned about aesthetics, and they had
two-tone cars pre-war. Therefore they might have gone to the trouble.
Based upon the foregoing, I have decided that since TC3586 had the darker
paint scheme, I am going to paint the slats a few shades lighter to match
the original upholstery samples I have.
Thanks again for an interesting tangent!

Hey Martin:
The site Sam Suklis sent you (& the rest of us) to, namely
http://www.mgcars.org.au/mgtd/mgtd_finishes.htm ; and which mentioned
"Woodland Green" and "Almond Green", was for TD colors. Best I can recall
right now from all the restoration books I have, (which is most of 'em), the
only TC green was "Shires Green", whatever that is. TC 7993, has her
original (Shires?) green on the firewall. Closest match I could find (40
some years ago) was a "Sage Green", maybe a MGA color. I realize this is
adrift from the topic (slats), but am confused by these other alleged TC
greens to which you refer.

Re: Radiator Slats
seemed to have the original rivets, was a greyish green, close to the green refered to in the T Series Handbook called Almond Green. I polished the area and took it to work where we have a color analysis computer{ am in the paint business}. We matched the color in a urethane. Used it also on the '47 TC, although a year too early. If any one wants a color chip, let me know. Cheers! RADIATOR SLATS
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of correspondence that is generated on
matters of originality. From what I have seen and read I would go along with
the view that the slats matched the colour of the trim in the majority of
cases. However, MG did take account of customer choice and would no doubt
have painted the radiator slats any colour that a customer requested. Of
course an owner could have painted the slats in the colour of his/her choice
after purchasing the vehicle.
I guess what is needed is to find an owner of a T type who either bought and
still has his car from new, or remembers buying a car and specifying
particular changes for his model. At his/her youngest that person would be
around 70 today and how many TA's/B's/C's still are in the ownership of the
original purchaser - very few I would think.
Perhaps the MG T Type Register may be able to comment or Mike Sherrell.

Re: RADIATOR SLATS
I notice that Joe Douglass from L A , who is listed in the TC Motoring Guild, bought his TC new in 1949 and it still has its original blue paintwork. Some of our list appear to be members also; anyone know him? Just a thought.
