Walker Saga continues

Skip I too have had second thoughts regarding my comments about Barry Walker, and I have now given 24 hours of reflection (what I should have done before I responded to you). One of my greatest fears as a businessman regarding the Internet is that our dirty laundry is aired instantaneously, and perhaps one side only. At one time the worst that can happen is that a few guys once a month get together for a quick one and have a go at the current supplier/parts crises and that is were it ends, at some pub in town not at computer terminals around the world. It is a common sport to pick on the reproduction parts business and I too am guilty of grousing about a bad part, but as a guy who also makes stuff I know how hard it is to deal with suppliers and manufacturers it is harder than the average man thinks, if it wasn't for the Moss Motors, Abingdon, Sports and Vintage Mtr. and Barry and others we would be singing a different tune. If you notice that the support for Hillman Huskys and NSU Princzs pales in comparison to the cars we own and work on. We forget there was a time when to restore or maintain our cars we had to buy parts cars, search junk yards and track down impossible leads for even the most mundane parts, but today we can decide on Thursday that the TC needs a brake job on Saturday and through the wonders of electronics the parts will be in Anchorage Alaska by noon on Saturday. One of these days I will tell of my woes in getting a replacement part for a Kohler water faucet that was 2 years old, I supply 50 year old carb parts faster. I too have been in business since 1973 and I am sure that I have had my share of deals gone bad due to misunderstandings and have more than a few people (not to many I hope) who would like to have a go at me, at one time or another. Joe, I agree with you comletely. I have been repairing british sport cars since 1953 and have been in business on my on since 1962. I have had my share of unhappy customers and have tried to solve are difference's on a one to one basis. To use a media as the internet to air your grivences is not right. Mike Goodman

Joe: I couldnt agree more!! It is time to enjoy the cars as they should be, and try to leave the negatives behind. I guess it is somewhat second nature to have a few bad experiences, and still dwell on it twenty years later. That is why I am putting as much negativity as possible in the past, and start enjoying the twenty first century. You are right about our hobby, and business, for that matter depends on these few people in the world who have "kept the parts available". In retrospect, my hats off to all of them.
