Between last minute work changes and family health issues, the odds are now greatly against it. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I do understand about that "curse of the middle class": work. I'm working my way through my fifth consecutive week of business travel now. My body is in DC but my mind is already in Moab. Moab is amazing. The optimal way to experience the place has to be on a dual sport. Perhaps Moab should be the dual sport riders' "Mecca", all righteous dual sport riders should get there, finances permitting, at least once in their lifetime. But for those of us fortunate enough to have experienced Moab more than once, the discussion is always about WHEN to come back. No one seems to leave Moab thinking they have seen all there is to see and ridden all there is to ride. Something tells me even your list moderator wouldn't make that claims! -----Original Message----- From: "mark ward" Sent: 5/ 13/ 2013 18:10 To: "List KLR" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Maob in May, Odds not looking good Between last minute work changes and family health issues, the odds are now greatly against it. John, I was supposed to meet you guys there ( the rev, Ross Lindburg etc.) but my Mother-in-law is entering her last days on this earth and need to be there for my wife through all this so it doesn't look good for next week. She was brought home today from the hospital and is getting 24 hour Hospice care. The pastor came by today to discuss the funeral with family so not looking good. Y'all have fun and I agree, Moab is the best place for variety of riding and scenery. You will never see it all. Criswell Sent from my iPad

This is my fourth trip here, and I still have not seen all that I want to see and have no ridden all I want to ride. Monday through Friday night I was in DC on business, I got home to Seattle about 10PM Friday night. 10AM Saturday morning, rolling in the truck to Moab. I was going to overnight in Boise (1/2 way) but when I got to Boise I was not tired so continued on to Salt Lake. A few hours slumber in the reclined driver s seat of the truck and I was awakened by the sunlight shining through the windshield. Made it to Moab about noon Sunday and headed to check in with Fred at Arrowhead. I made it to Fred s place just in time to take a call from Jeff and Justin. Justin s KLR was about to throw a chain and he didn t think he could make Moab. So I picked up a chain, drive and driven sprocket from Fred and delivered it to Justin in Kayenta, AZ at the southern end of Monument Valley. We put the new driveline on in the parking lot of the motel (I had a lift in the truck, which made it easier) and overnighted in Kayenta. I had stayed at that very motel last year when my daughter and I rode the area http://johnbiccum.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Seattle-to-Denver/17824820_JxGFnq#!i=1373653125 http://johnbiccum.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Seattle-to-Denver/17824820_JxGFnq#!i=1373653125&k=DHDnVTw> &k=DHDnVTw I drove the truck back to Moab this morning, Monument Valley being not nearly as interesting seen through the windshield of the truck as looking over the windshield on the KLR. Justin and Jeff arrived about 6PM after riding Valley of the Gods, Moki Dugway and Monument Valley. Tomorrow is my first riding day, an easy day planned. We are headed to Gemini Bridges, then Long Canyon, Shaffer Trail etc. Nice easy loop for the first day here. Just heard from Mark Ward; he is on the way from Michigan. So I might have a roommate in the cabin for the second week after all. Dang, I was thinking of doing the Gemni Bridges this year and don't know if I have done Longs Canyon. I really like going up Castle Valley up into the La Sals and east to Gateway Colorado. They have a great car museum there. You can also do the Onion Creek to a little bit harder trail (sandier) to get up there where you have to go through a gate. The first trip I did out there, we came down from the Island of the Sky area through Pucker Pass (interesting name and a little Pucker just at first), that road down is nifty. Wish I was there. Motherinlaw died Saturday morning. Funeral is Thursday. Criswell Sent from my iPad

For those who are not pure KLR fans (who me? Yes, you.) and occasionally commit KLR Adultery... Here is a link for vintage Honda parts http://www.ohiocycle.com/ I have never done business there, but ADV poster --killfile-- spoke highly of them. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16835658#post16835658 revmaaatin.
