I don t know if Pelicans get in the way of the passenger; but they do get in the way of the rider, and can be dangerous to the rider!!!! I have Pelicans and I noticed that when I take off from a stop I have to make sure that I don t drag my (right) foot. The Pelican wants to run it over, so I have to be extra mindful. I have the Pelican 1550 cases mounted on my KLR, and as long as you allow for it, you won't have any problems with carrying a passenger. I mounted mine specifically with this in mind. I have photos of my installation here --> http://tinyurl.com/2hy7ch I have carried passengers with my cases installed, and I have had more trouble from where I mounted my 1500 top case than I have from the 1550 side cases, though you do need to be careful not to drag your feet with hard cases, as has been mentioned before. Warren, Excellent job, it all looks like it belongs there. I'm planning on doing the same thing this summer, but I am looking into using the 1430 or 1440 cases for the sides because they're a top load case. Thanks, Darren, I had a lot of fun getting them installed. I had considered the top-loading cases, but I wanted the capacity of the 1550s, and none of the top-loaders have that...yet...I have noticed that Pelican seems to be getting a bit larger with their top-load designs, and I'm hoping they might get there. Incidentally, I am also considering upgrading my top case to a 1550...I think I even mentioned this on my install page. Could always use a little extra room! This is a dangerous error in packing theory. Too big a case means more opportunity to take more crap than you need. I have packed that way many times in the past, and usually come home with more than half my gear untouched and unused. E21's give plenty of capacity, and are top-loading. Instead of looking for a little more room, give a little more thought to what you can leave behind, and how to pack what you have more efficiently.

I would rather carry around the extra weight than to wish I had bought something I thought I could leave behind. I have a tank bag and panniers plus Givi 45L top box and 36L side cases. I used to configure my luggage many different ways to suit the trip. Now I find myself using the three Givi's even if they are empty. I can quickly stash my helmet, Darien jacket, pants and boots inside when I make a stop. If I shop I can fit a full shopping cart inside them. They also act somewhat like outriggers making it much easier to pick up the bike when the terrain wins. I don't worry about catching a foot since the corners are well rounded and they are only a hindrance on the more technical terrain which I avoid anyway since I am usually alone. Walt

Darcy I have Pelican 1550 cases on my bike. You have to be careful on the placement but you still have room for passenger legs. Here is a pic of my bike with the cases attached. Once installed the Pelican cases support only midget wifes, is that PC? Is it little people? Anyone see and think the Jack-In-The-Box commerical with the little folks is a bit NON PC?
