Hello Y'all
Just putting up a post that I read all the talk about the
doohickey problems. So I decided not to take the chance and ordered
the kit from Arrowhead. I also ordered progressive springs at the
same time for my 05' A19. I installed the kit and the springs Sat.
night in my air conditioned shop. (Boy was that nice). I did the job
in a lot less time than I thought it would, About 2 hrs for both. The
only thing I didn't have a repair manual on the KLR so I used my
mechanical knowledge to do the torqueing. So I was wondering if you
could give me some feed back on if I used the right specs.
Flywheel- 150 ft.lbs.
side covers- 80 In.lbs.
shifter about till it felt good
and adjusting screw. 70in.lbs.
I took the bike for a ride when it was all done and the new
springs mad a difference in the handling. I did have to try a couple
different spacers the next day for my size and riding style.
P.S.
Litte tip I almost made a mistake and popped the side cover for
the Doohickey cange before draining the oil. I said Holy crap that
would've made a mess. So anybody going to do the change don't forget
the oil drain. I laughed about it later.

Check the FAQ for pointers to Mark's KLR pages, and head over to http://www.multisurfacemotorcycling.com/>. Both sites have instructions on how to do the doohickey replacement, and those instructions (at least Eldon's, IIRC) tell you the proper torques. -- Blake Sobiloff San Jose, CA (USA)> The > only thing I didn't have a repair manual on the KLR so I used my > mechanical knowledge to do the torqueing. doohickey install
Thanks for the info on were to find the info on the install. I
should have asked that earlier. But I went at it on a wing and a
prayer. I didn't think 2 hrs. was bad for that.
My doohickey came out everything intact and spring was still there.
I was actually debating the spring replacement since it was still
intact but decided from the stories I should just go ahead and change
it. I have about 1,500 miles on it so I didn't suspect it being bad but
just wanted to do it to avoid down time.
thanks again for the info
