question about tires

Hi. I m an editor for Field & Stream, live in Manhattan, and am setting up a trip in which I and one of the magazine s photographers will be fishing/touring Baja on KLR 650s for an article to appear sometime later this year. The plan is to leave in late May, fish for golden trout in the mountains, chase roosterfish on the gulf beaches, then head down to Cabo for deep sea action. I ve got bikes lined up (Kawasaki s been great), but I need to rig them to carry all of our junk. We re going to be camping, sometimes staying in motels, and carrying everything we need for two weeks, including two sets of fishing gear each (a trout rig, and a saltwater rig for the roosterfish). I m in touch with the Whitehorse folks and they re giving me some helpful literature, but I thought I could get a jump on the process by asking this group for help. Wisdom of the crowds and all that. So, anyone have recommendations as to how to pack for such a trip? What do I need to bolt onto my bike to carry all my gear, and where do you recommend I get it? Wolfman has worked well for me. You sound like a tank bag (da wolf) and hard Pelican bags on Happy Trails racks. Sand sucks. I got caught in it last Sunday. Put lots of weight on that rear wheel and you'll do better in the #(*)(&*&#)# sand. --- Nate Matthews wrote:

Sand, even deep Michigan Great Lake sugar sand is no problem for my KLR. Get on the pegs, lean back twist throttle and power surf anywhere I want to go. Course I grew up playing with a 80cc 2 stroke in this stuff and learned when the power started to drop downshift and try to get it back close to redline.. Needless to say the KLR makes enough power so I can stay away from redline and still make lots-o-roostertails... Dooden A15 Green Ape
