rsw racing fork brace
I see where this question was asked back in Jan., but there weren't any
responses, so here goes again. Have any of you purchased the RSW Racing
fork brace http://www.rswracing.com/klr650.htm>? The price is very
attractive, but I'm concerned about how well the boots would seal and
the lack of anodizing.

Hello Jim, Just prior to a battle, an ARMY LT tank commander under the command of Gen Patton (WWII) filled the gas tank of his tank to the brim, after the orders were given to only fill them 1/2 full (for tactical reasons, gas was in short supply). Patton was furious that the LT had disobeyed his orders and called him to HQ to explain himself. "Sir, the manual says that the tank should be kept full at all times so that condensation will not cause corrosion in the tank." (I believe the LT was a West Point Graduate.) Patton replied, (words to the effect) "Son, your battle-tank is not going to last long enough for the gas-tank to EVER rust out." I doubt that your KLR will EVER last long enough for the anodizing to ever matter, although I could be wrong if you are a salt-water beach rider. The 'boots', now that is another issue. If it is going to be a canyon carver and not a 'dust-eater', the boots have less influence on the decision. revmaaatin. who is brace free, but has thought about it.> the lack of anodizing. > > Jim Hudson >

I see their web page is pretty sketchy; not much help.
FYI, I installed a brace from KY Tech
http://tinyurl.com/sn8gt
or eBay item number 280031287588, $117. Nice piece,
designed so the boots tuck in nicely. They want you to
do a cut-out of the fender, but I couldn't see why it
would interfere short of full-on moto-x use (maybe for
the low fender?), so I emailed to verify, but no
response. Never did the cut-out -- works great. No
affiliation, etc.

chain oiling

Unless of course you are not using a modern O or X ring chain. Or, the seals have completely worn away. Also, wheelies with a passenger? Don't know if I'd endorse that kind of activity. There are many places in my area where 4x4's have been out rutting around having fun. I always seem to find myself out there staring at all those ruts with standing water and I can't stop myself, I GOTTA jump in there and see how deep they are. The ruts I stay in and play in range from footpeg deep to bottom of the gas tank deep. Some of these ruts are winding, twisting, up and down ruts that are 100yrds. long. I must assume that the continuous running of my chain under water is washing it clean and making it squeak, after the water dries out of it of course. It is a modern o-ring chain and that is half the problem. All them 100? clean and dry little rubber o-rings with no lubrication being rotated on a metal surface would cause a squeak, wouldn't it? So far motor oil has shown the best ability to withstand this abuse. I applaud you for voicing your opinion without feeling the need for outright bashing. After rereading what I had previously wrote I understand your concern. I should have worded it differently such as; My bike now has the ABILITY to do 2 up roll on wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear. Which is never performed on the street but rather out on a secluded dirt trail with no risk from others and the tire never rising more than 1 foot from the ground. A blip of the throttle which is clearly discussed before performed.. Even this rarely happens because we have a very happy riding arrangement. I quote her now, "I'm ready for a cigarette so you can drop me off and go have fun being a retard.". I am not the jackass that we all have seen riding wheelies all over the place, whipping in and out of traffic, speeding, acting the fool, screaming " look at me, I want to get squished.". But if your ever out on a secluded dirt trail somewhere out in the middle of nowhere and you see someone acting quite foolish, look around for a lady smoking a cigarette. You found me. Strangely enough, motorcycle parts was the last thing I was
expecting when you said KY Tech. I wasn't sure I wanted to know
what a KY Tech was.
