voltmeter
I recently purchased an aftermarket LED voltmeter for my KLR and am wondering what is the best way to wire it up? I was thinking that the "city light" accessory leads in front of the speedo might be convenient but would like to get some feedback from the electrical gurus on the list whether wiring it into the system at that point is a good idea and representative of the condition of the overall charging system.
Thanks.

If you want to see how the battery is charging, what charging voltage over
the battery is, you have to connect it directly to the battery poles. If you
use an existing lead, that is used for something, IE carries current, you do
not know what the voltage drop in the leads are. If you use existing leads,
that are not used at all, you could be fine, if they do not share any
"leads" with something else that draws current. Simply, there must not flow
any other current in the wiring that you are hooking you Voltmeter up to.
Other than its own current of course. A bit messy but is it clear enough?

voltmeter
Does anybody know where to get a digital, panel mount, waterproof,
voltmeter I can mount on my KLR? Similar to the one Robert Morgan
used on his trick dash set-up? Riderwarehouse.com doesn't seem to be
around anymore. I've spent hours looking through motorcycle accessory
sites, to no avail.
Thanks

If you have a Garmin GPS it has a voltmeter built in.

Glenn, this LED unit may suit your needs. They also have a less expensive LCD version available.
I have not used this company's products yet, but I intend to try out the LED unit.
Has anyone else road-tested this particular voltmeter on a KLR?

Thanks Mark and everybody that responded. With my Pre-Alzheimer's
syndrome I missed the colored LED voltmeter at Aerostitch the first
time. I appreciate the re-direction. However, I didn't want to do
the "colored light" thing for the price. As a technician, I can much
more appreciate actual numbers to monitor the voltage. The LCD
version for about $50 is what I've been thinking of. I'll get one as
soon as I can find a good location for it and run it past
my 'financial advisor'.
