Hi everyone, I rode to work today for the first time since December. It feels good to know that Summer's coming to western NY. Anyways, I just picked up a used set of Rally Pros off Ebay super-cheap and I'm super-happy I didn't pay $80 for new ones. How on Earth do you mount them around the controls and levers. It seems like I need shorter levers in order to fit them inside the handguard. I really don't want my levers hanging down below them. I can just barely fit the levers inside by sliding the clutch lever bracket and the master cylinder down, but then the levers are too far from the grips and everything else gets in the way down low. Any suggestions??? I really want handguards because the last time I went down I almost lost my pinky finger after it got smashed between the bar end and the pavement. Not pretty! Plus, I hate the look of those awful stock brushguards. Also, can any of you recommend some good plastic paint? YZ blue does not match Tengai blue like I thought it would. I was thinking about trying Krylon fusion. It's supposed to bond to plastic well and also flex. Thanks, Mike

Mike, It takes a bit of work, but they will mount in a manner that will protect your hands as well as your handles. Try turning the mounting brackets 180 degrees so they point down (sort of). HtH, Denis

That is good advice, I just re-mounted a set I had, and a quick session customizing them (making a sharper angle in the bend) gave me a better fit. I just bought some "probends" hand guards. Of all the ones I have installed or seen installed I like these the best. The offer a bigger bend and an easy way to get your hands out of them in an emergency. They are pricey, on sell for $89.99 at cycle gear. I had to special order them to get them in black. Hey, I know about bending the Moose brand lever protectors to fit the KLR, and Jeff Saline knows how to repair them when you bend them to "far." How do you know that you have bent them to far? You will know that you have bent them to far when you end up with one more piece than when you started. At least, that is what I heard, memory not to good today... revmaaatin. who has the sick-sound of extra,Moose lever protector pieces falling to the floor, indelibly etched in his memory ps. The repair? Jeff used some sort of an alumimum brazing stick and a propane torch that fixed it right up. I was amazed.
