Ya know, I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should've bought the warranty. OEM shocks seem to puke out their guts before 30k miles, and I have 20k on a bike that's under one year-old. A new shock would pay for the warranty. I'll also blow a fork seal sometime sooner-or-later, and it'd be nice to have Kawi pick up the tab when it happens. If I remember correctly, you can purchase that extended warranty
anytime within the first year of ownership (if you bought it new). I
really want to learn how to fix the thing myself, but I don't have a
clean place to work on it. My garage/shed has a dirt floor and I don't
want to be working on a motorcycle while kicking up dirt and dust. I
guess I could have spent the $5200 on a cement floor for my
garage...yeah right! LOL!

I live in San Francisco and don't have access to a workspace or an
abundance of tools. Having said that, what do you all think about
purchasing the four year extended warranty?

WHATS ANYONES OPINION ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY? ABOUT $500 FOR 4 YRS. COVERAGE. ALSO, MY DEALER HAS NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOHICKEY (THAT WAS EXPECTED) AND WANTS $200 TO INSTALL AN AFTER-MARKET PART THAT I PROVIDE. Some people have gone over 50,000mi on a late-model motor with a stock doohickey. Some people have opened up a late-model motor with less miles than yours and found broken stuff. The motor runs just fine with a broken doohickey or a broken spring, with no way to tell without opening up the motor. If you don't replace it, you'll probably be fine. MY WARRANTY WILL EXPIRE SOON. I AM REPLACING THE DOOHICKEY SOON AND ADJUSTING VALVES- 5800 MILES. DOES ANYONE HAVE OPINIONS ON WHETHER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS WORTH IT. 1. I think that Miss Manners would agree that posting in caps just isn't done in polite society. 2. I think an extended warranty is just an overpriced crap insurance policy. Dealer usually has a 100% markup on it. Ask your dealer if he thinks you should have it. If yes, I think you should twist his nipple until he gives it to you for half price. 3. I think you should expect a lot of rebop from the insurer if you ever have to try to collect. They may pay off in the end, brt expect them to look for any excuse to weasel out of paying.>

extended warranty
John,
I have an extended warranty cause my bike came with it when I bought it
used. I wouldn't go out and purchase the warranty but if something
really bad happens I suppose I'll be glad I have it. I think you'll be
better off spending the money on oil and filters, grease for the links
and maybe a coolant and brake fluid change every now and then. A bit of
preventative maintenance goes a long way towards reliability.
