I am thinking of buying some Givi sidecases and don't know whether to go with two E36's or one E36 and an E45 for the non-exhaust side. Any thoughts, pictures, or experiences? I'm just worried the E45 will stick out to far and make the bike look even more dorky (if that is possible) than it already does. Thanks Lujo. I am unable to open that site though. Do you find each E36 large enough? I would like to be able to carry my laptop computer in one. Rob

HT SU racks with a pair of E36's http://www.kingsqueak.org/klr650/ I think it looks pretty well balanced, the racks come out evenly.

I have 36s on the side and a 45 on top. Yeah .. it looks like an off - road Gold Wing. No one ever accused me of riding a pretty bike. But it is darn functional with the bags. PauL M. Rob, The E41 "keyless" bags are top-loading, very nice, easy to use. They hold 2 laptops each, I think. Almost the same size as E36's. You can check out the sizes, and consult (1-800-444-8770), at www.happy- trail.com. All the best, Mike

You might try typing in the web site address by hand -- perhaps your mail client is having trouble with the link. After using the E36s for a while I switched to top-loading aluminum panniers, which, though similar in size, I found to have much more usable space. It all depends on what you want to do. If you want to lug groceries, top-loading panniers are far easier to load (and load fully). If you want to take a side case off and take it to a motel room, Givis are definitely a better bet. My preference is for top-loading panniers, but Givis are certainly a decent choice too. A laptop should fit fine in a Givi bag so long as the laptop bag isn't too big. Just a word in favor of the Givi E21s. Top-loading, pop off like the side- loading Givis, and carry like a suitcase. They are small, that is to say, no bigger than a pannier ought to be on a KLR, but my iBook will go in there, not that I would ever carry it there. They work nicely with the HT PL racks, which will also accomodate Ortlieb clip-ons. The PL racks look better than the SUV racks with the bags off, IMHO.

I have a set of the Givis on my Suzuki GS1150 and made the decision to go with panniers on the KLR, based on my experience on the Suzuki. On a street bike they work great, I like being able to pop them on and off as long as I'm not packing groceries. I've had falls off road that don't think the Givis would have survived.
