As it's bug season and all those ugly splats, I thought I'd post the one, all time best motorcycle tip I've ever read. "Pledge" spray furniture wax, or the cheapest generic equivalent. Dissolves bugs, leaves faceshields and visors clear and streak free, gives your gas tank and plastics a quick mess free clean up and can be carried on a trip easily. Combined with a cotton rag from and old shirt, it solves bug splats without damaging Lexan etc. You probably know this, but maybe someone else doesn't. Steve B.C. Canada

I can attest to that thanks to Steve. I got told by my dealer, who I refer to as "shithead" because that is exactly what he is, to buy this stuff called Plastix or something. Actually it was his mechanic who said that and it was almost 3 times the price for less than half the amount of Pledge and does 1/3 as good a job. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Steve Hersant" wrote:

I found an even cheaper tip years ago, in a touring book. Get a small refillable bottle. Quarter fill with any liquid car wax. Fill the rest with water. Like snake oil: cleans screens, eyeglasses, cd's, dvd'd; anything where the surface should have a polished look. What is really happening is the the wax is filling in the very small scratches. So most plastice look like new. Once in a while (maybe ten cleanings) you will finally see a build up. Then it is just soap and water to start over. I also use some 'state of the art' cleaners like Plexus. They work as advertised, no buildup, just expensive. I use this mostly at home. Mike Cocorochio Maybe I'll start adding some lemon ;>]

Just be careful with plastics. Ammonia will fog them so don't use anything with that in it. Alcohol will make it brittle, so RainX isn't a great idea unless you replace your visor each season. I've been using 303 which is a biodegradeable Armor All type stuff, works great used once a month or so, keeps my visor very slick so not much will stick at all. Doesn't seem to leave a film on it and it's safe for plastics too. I'm not sure why it stuck so long, but back in the 80's Motorcyclist did a test with RainX and after a few applications helmet visors would shatter easily from a hammer blow. -- ___ ______ _____ __ ________ ___ / _ |< < / == / ___/__ / /_ /_ __/ / __ ____ _ ___ /__ \ / __ |/ // / ****/ (_ / _ \/ __/ / / / _ \/ // / ' \/ _ \ /__/ /_/ |_/_//_/ == \___/\___/\__/ /_/ /_//_/\_,_/_/_/_/ .__/ (_) 8600 miles*Russel Lines*Supertrapp Race* /_/ http://www.kingsqueak.org/klr650/

THANKS Steve, I didn't know it. And this works on the fenders and side pannels too? Will it keep them from turning pink? Some things I like pink but not my bike. Again thanks.... Joe A-18 SE Ky. --- Charles Earl wrote:

Yes, Joe,it seems to work everywhere with the exception of the brake rotors and tire treads !I've still have 2 over 20 year old bikes that look relatively new, and I've only used the cheapest furniture spray wax. I do have a solution to stop fade on your red KLR, but it is drastic.It's Johnson's Future Floor Finish, which is a clear acrylic floor shine. I rebuild old bicycles as a hobby and after cleaning the frame, apply this stuff with a rag. It dries to a gloss finish and hides minute scratches. The original paint colour is revived. I've put it on the dull red plastic on my KLR and am relativley pleased with the result. It's obviously important to use a fine cotton rag to apply it . It is excellent on any metal surface (spokes etc) as it seals the metal and prevents rusting. I always use it on metal bike parts that I've had to use a wire wheel on as they are prone to quick rusting. It is also not rain soluable ! Steve B.C. Canada

More experienced people than I can answer your tire question, but getting a tire in Whitehorse is easy. Call STM Recreation ph 1-800-661-0430 or 867-668-2101 - ask for Rick. There is a Kawi Dealer here as well (867-667-7491) but STM Recreation has a better reputation and has been good to my KLR. Have a good trip, Mark Whitehorse, Yukon Territory
>Hey everyone, >Thanks for all the help in the past but I have yet another question.
Can anyone recommend a motorcycle dealer in Whitehorse, Yukon. I want to call ahead and get a Bridgestone Trailwing TW42 waiting for me there on my way through.
>On Bridgestone's website it lists the TW42 as a 120/90-17. I've got
a Pirelli Scorpion is a 130/90 (P.O.)... is that going to be a problem?
>Can I fit a 120/90 on the KLR650?
Cheers! Tom '02KLR
