Not sure if your aware that the WSDOT will give you a single or multiple copies of the Official Washington State Highway map just by requesting a copy on-line. Paper fold up road map, a service you've already paid for so why not use it, that is if you live in WA, if not your missing out on a great place to ride so I'll buy you a map to check it out ;^) Here's the link http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/communications/Map/order.htm Any other states offering this service? Minnesota, like many other states, gives the map away free at rest stops near the state line that have tourist information. I didn't readily find a way to order the paper map online, but it can be downloaded at: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/statemap/

Slow and steady with the Italian 2-strokes makes all the difference. Personally I'm interested in adventure touring in all its forms, and I'm looking at the KLR for a possible Purdhoe Bay to Terra Del Fuego trip. A few years back I thought it would be neat to ride a Vespa scooter from Vancouver, BC down to visit my brother in California and then back across the country to Ontario, Canada. The ride was going good until the piston seized on my just south of Seattle. I got it going again and then the bastard not only seized but holed the piston about 200km south of Seattle. My trip was done. Luckily the shop I bought the scooter from stood behind the scoot and came down and not only rescued me, refunded 100% of my money and payed for my flight back home. I can't tell ya how thankful I am for that as I could have lost thousands otherwise. That was the end of small 2 strokes for me. I know of others who have made it almost coast to coast on the Vespa's. Most engines just give up after being run that hard for so long a time. I think going 80kph instead of WFO makes all the difference. I've been over the rockies a few times, twice on KLR and once on a GS and I couldn't imagine running a small moped or scooter! Karl
