did my doohickey !!

Post by bigdogg@mvn.net » Sat Dec 20, 2003 10:03 pm

Here's the scoop at 8,660 miles on my KLR-----got my Eagle Doohickey, spring, gaskets and rotor puller from Fred today and tore things apart (I fabricated a rotor holder). Everything was pretty well as new----nothing broken and the spring still had some tension on it. Fred now ships the Doohickey with both a 38 and 35mm spring (stock is 40)------and I used the 35. The 38 was OK, but I thought it would lose tension after a couple of adjustments. So I hope to not have to go in there for a long time. My motor isn't any quieter--but nothing was wrong when I started this. For all those people wondering if they should do this----I looked at it this way. I like the bike very much and plan on keeping it and putting some miles on it----also, I ride in the wilderness a lot--maybe not seeing anybody all day, so I want it to be as reliable as possible. And I'm going to Copper Canyon in March---they don't have any Doohickeys in Batopilas I'm told :) A word of advice-----after shattering you regular 19mm crafstman socket with an air impact on the rotor bolt-------don't go to Sears and ask for a replacement and then buy an impact socket socket at the same time :) ---wait till the next day !!! Mark, I'm glad it worked out well for you. I actually decided about a month ago to send two springs in each kit - not just the ones from Fred, but Tim, too. :-) I'ts very hard to tell in advance which spring will be best. So, wherever you get the kit, it will have two springs, until further notice. :-) It seems like most of adjustment necessay to the system is in the first few thousand miles. I had a discussion with Elden today - he had put on new balancer sprockets (but not the idler sprocket), and a new chain about 5K ago. He noticed quite a bit of change in lever position. I suggested that the chain rides on the rubber on either side of the teeth, until the rubber is worn down. He went out and checked his bike, and agreed that was happening. That rotor is a tight one, isn't it? I've had some go pretty easy, and some kind of hard. All the best to you! Mike Eagle Mfg & Eng San Diego, Ca.

A termite walks into a bar and says "Hey, is the bar tender here?" Jesus walks into an Inn, hands the Inn keeper three nails and says "Hey, can you put me up for the night?" A boy and his grandfather go to the mall, they get seperated and the boy is found by a security guard. Security guard right away needs more information and asks the boy "So, what's he like?" Boy turns to him and says "Big tits and Jack Daniels".
