how many klr,s sold in us each year?

Hi all, Just looking at options for some rear hard cases for the green meanie. My "needs" are for a large capacity, waterproof, quickly removable, and for the mounting system (racks ect.) to not look crappy when the cases aren't on(as I would have them off most of the time). I do a small amount of riding (10K so far this year), and I only really toured twice for a total of about 4K of those miles. I mostly use the bike as a commuter, and I love to go offroading. I want something that can be totally removed in a pinch, and thrash around, then return, and put it all back on without needing a lift and tools. I like the pelican case idea, we use them at work for our delicate meters and thermal imaging cameras. They are tough, and waterproof. I just don't know how you could mount them and still have them waterproof, and easily removable at the same time. Thanks in advance for any advise. FiremanEd A17

36 lt. Givis will fit your " needs ". 46k miles latter I'm surprised how tough mine turned out to be. Bogdan

I've got the cheap JC Whitney top box on mine, it is just large enough to hold a XXL Shoei RF900 and my nylon bike cover. It isn't pretty, but I think it runs about $59, and it works. http://www.panix.com/~cesser/mybike/ has some pics.

I've got a 3-bag Givi setup, from Tim at http://happy-trail.com/ , that I'm happy with. It was around $600-700 a few years ago. Givi's have the advantages of being widely supported and available, lots of mix and match choices, pretty tough and waterproof (my KLR has fallen on the side bags, with only a little scuffing), accessories, etc. It's also easy to use them on other bikes, once you get the rack for the other bike. I've got one set of bags that I use on both a KLR and a VStrom. You can also go with metal cases from Tim or Al Jesse at http://www.jesseluggage.com/, but they are more money and less versatile. In some ways they're stronger but I don't think they hold up as well in fall-overs. Jett, A15 AZ

I just installed the E-35 Givi as a top box. Rack is not intrusive and it seems well built, real easy on-off, and is a good size for my needs. It will not take a full sized helmet, hovever, so, if this is important, you might want to look into the E-45. It was a tad too big for me though. How many 650's,how many 250's? My dealer say's he sells about 30 a year of the two combined, but you never see any out on the road, here in Maryland. Just curious, Paul
