break in service

Post by The Mule » Sat Mar 01, 2003 9:46 am

What I did with my first KLR was provide a data sheet to the mechanic asking to list the before and after valve clearances. While he still coulda fudged the numbers, I believe it gave him more incentive to actually do the job, knowing I was anal about the measurements and might check them myself. Still no guarantee, but what the hell. The Mule

engine break-in

I followed the recommendation of the MotoTuneUSA website, and changed the oil at 25 miles. I was shocked by the amount of metal flake in the oil and in the filter housing. I should have taken pictures of the oil and the filter housing and posted them on the list. The pieces of metal are large, and easy to see. Maybe the next new bike owner will take the pix and post them.

That's a great idea........unfortunately I don't have a digital camera. The generous peeps who share info and help others on this list is one of the great things about being here. Hopefully, at some point(s) in the future, I'll be able to return the favor. The Mule
