new klr - smokin' !
So I have a new KLR (yea) with about 450mi on it so
far. From the day I brought it home it has smoked
medium heavy oil smoke when starting up from a totally
cold motor. This smoke gradualy subsides as the engine
warms up and is not visible after it is completely
warmed up. After 450mi I would think that this smoking
would have ceased but it is more or less the same
every time I start it (cold). Anyone else had this
situation? From my limited engine experience it sounds
like a broken ring, cracked piston, or? Any ideas? I
am about to take it in for a 500mi dealer service and
would like to know if this sounds like something
absolutely wrong with the engine for a possible
warranty fix. Thanks for any constructive feedback.
