"totaled" klr650

Post by rsheeres » Thu Oct 10, 2002 1:45 pm

I have a KLR650 that I took on an unplanned off road excursion. I managed to break my leg bad enough to require it to be screwed back together so I've lost my desire to continue riding. The insurance company paid me of for a total loss based on restoring the bike to showroom condition but the payoff came nowhere near enough for me to cover my losses. The bike is a 2002 with 755 miles. There is no damage to the wheels/tires or the motor/trans/main frame or swing arm. The handle bar is broke, mirrors gone and most plastic scuffed. There is a 3" shallow dent on upper right fuel tank and 2 turn signals are broke. The bike came down on the corner of the luggage rack and the the frame that holds the seat is offset about 1/2 inch from being centered over the rear wheel, I believe this could be disassembled and straightened. The bike starts and runs fine and could probably be put back on the road in a safe driveable condition for maybe $300 in parts based on what I see as wrong. The bike also has the good time extended warranty until April 2006 which Kawasaki wont give a refund for since I am the second owner, but I assume I would be able to transfer the warranty. I bought the bike with 631 miles on it from a guy in Ohio who wanted a street bike. I am listing the bike for sale in the local newspaper starting tomorrow for $1600 if anyone here is interested. The bike is near Omaha, Nebraska, Thanks, Rick
