re mpg extra

out of interest with the fact the klr actualy retains some gas in the tank which i would imagine could vary depending on that last bump you went over,and the fact theres no fuel gauge. how do you guys get exact milage per gallon? 73 miles per gallon is pretty good. as far as measuring gas into the tank and driving til it dies i seem to only get around 45-50 mpg with the bike fully stock (apart from the carb pilot drilled out and backed out 2 turns). just curious paul A16

Its not exact, but its close, Fill your tank up drive 50 miles or a 100. Fill up again and check it. Mike

1. Fill the tank. 2. Record your odo reading. 3. Ride for as long as you want on that tank, but the longer the better. 4. Refill the tank. 5. Record the odo reading again. 4. Record how much gas it took. 5. Calculate how many miles you went - last odo reading minus first odo reading. 6. The miles divided by the gallons is the miles per gallon. It is not necessary to run the tank to empty to get a pretty accurate mileage figure. But it *is* important that when you fill it, you fill it to the same level. Ira Agins Santa Fe, Nm A16

If you really want to be accurate to the last decimal, keep a running tally of your mileage and gallons over several tanksful. That will minimize the error attributable to different fill levels from tank to tank.
